This invention relates to braiding machines id particularly to this kind of machines .apted to the manufacture of an elastic cord band comprising a core forming a loop 1d surrounded by a sheath of textile marial and having at either end a suitable taching device, the same being adapted for is as an extensible device or a shock-abrber, for example in aeroplane landing aars. The manufacture of this machine is very mple' and inexpensive whileits working 1 economical and sure; on the other hand, I the case of the braiding of cords under msion, it is easy to adjust the tension of 1c cord by modifying the length of the carier, a belt for instance. a

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a braiding iachine according to the invention;
Fig. 2 is a detail view showing the method f mounting a skein on the belt of the said raiding machine by means of attaching iembers or plates.
The machine comprises a horizontal table r plate 46 mounted upon uprights 47. A ertain number of bobbins 48 are movable y suitable driving means upon the said plate .ccording to the sinuouslines of grooves 49, ormed in the said plate. The threads 50 mm said bobbins are supported upon two ollecting members formed by rings 51-52.
Said machine comprises also a beltv 53 tretched between two pulleys 54-55 dis- )osed respectively above and below the plate. lhe top pulley 54 is the driving pulley and s actuated by a speed reduction device which nay consist of gears 60, 61, 62, 63 from a driving shaft 64. The motidn can be reversed by an intermediate inion 65.
The belt 53, which is provided with a suitable stretcher 66, is interrupted upon a part of its len h between the points A and B (Figure 1 in such manner as to receive between these two points the aforesaid extensible device as it is delivered from the said windin machine. For this purpose, each end A, of the belt 53 is terminated (Figure 2) by a pair of bent strips 56, 57, which are secured to the belt by an axle 58 placed in an overturned portion 59 of the belt.
When the machine is at rest, the two free ends A and B of the belt are preferably joined to each other by means of hooks or the like whereby the belt will be maintained in its place upon the pulleys.
In operation the ends of plates 100, 101 secured to the extensible device, for instance, to be braided are inserted between the ends of the strips 56, 57 (Figure 2) carried by the belt 53. The said plates 100, 101 can now be connected to the strips 56, 57' by an axle 67 The extensible device is thus inserted into the belt 53 and since the length A, B, of the belt, (which can be adjusted by the stretcher 66) is equal to the distance between the holes of the plates 100, 101 mounted on the thimbles 2. The extended elastic apparatus, when attached to the belt, will maintain its tension.
Now, the manufacture of the sheath is proceded with. The belt 53 is vertically raised and then lowered. (by means of the reversing device) and the threads from the bobbins 48 will thus be made to travel the whole length of the skein, in both directions, and the sheath can thus be given several thicknesses.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: i
1. A braiding machine for applying a sheath of braided material around a core comprising a flexible carrier adapted to be put under tension, means for securing between the ends of said carrier the'said core, pulleys supporting said carrier, means for rotating said pulleys alternately in opposite directions, means for placing layers of thread around said core.
. 2. A braiding machine for applying a 1 sheath of textile material around an elastic f 5 loop under tension comprising a flexible carrier, adapted to be put under tension, means for securing between the ends of said carrier the elastic loop under tension, pulleys su porting said carrier, means for rotating said pulleys alternately in opposite directions and means for placing layers oi 'thread around both strands of the elastic 100 under tension.
3. A braiding machine or applying a I sheath of textile material around an elastic loop under tension comprising a flexible carrier, ada ted to be put under tension, means for securing between the ends of said carrier the elastic loop under tension, pulleys su porting said carrier, means for rotating said pulleys alternately in opposite directions,

25 4. A braiding machine, for applying a sheath of braided material around a core, comprising at least one carrier adapted to hold said core under tension, means for imparting to said carrier a reciprocating motion 5@ and means for placing layers of thread aroun said core.
