GARTER GRIP Fild Aug. 30, 1938 Tz ii E i E 5 30 6 INVENTOR. J'bH/v B. HOLSTZCLAW BY Patented May 28, 1940 UNITED STATES GARTER GRIP John B. Hcltzclaw,
Application August 30,
5 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in garter grips.
The general object of the invention is to provide a novel improved hose support.
A more specific object of the invention is to provide a novel garter grip which in connection with the usual garter upholds the hose adequately yet does not bind the wearers leg.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel garter grip which allows loose adjustment of the garter thus preventing discomfort, irritation and poor circulation.
Other objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanyin drawing, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a view of a garter grip embodying the features of my invention as used with a standard garter;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the garter grip;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the garter grip;
Fig. 4 is a section taken on line 4-4! Fig. 2;
Fig. 5 is a top plan view showing a slight modification of my invention; and
Fig. 6 is a section taken on line 6'--6 Fig. 5.
Referring to the drawing by reference characters I have shown my invention as embodied in a garter grip which is indicated generally at ID. As shown in Fig. 1 the garter grip iii may be employed with a standard garter H which includes an elastic or flexible band l2 and the usual fastening device l3 which engages the hose The garter grip [0 includes a circular disk-like body or base portion l5 having a concave under face I5 and a convex upper face H and is preferably formed of soft flexible rubber.
A strap or loop portion i8 is spaced above the base portion l5 and is integral therewith as at I9 and I9 forming a slot 2i? adapted to accommodate the band i2 of the garter ll.
Ventilation apertures 2i which pierce the base portion l5 may be provided for affording communication to the concave under face !6.
The tapered lower portion 22 of a spur member 23 engages a central aperture 23' in the base portion !5 and is held therein by the resiliency of the rubber. The spur member 23 includes an intermediate flange 2 3 which engages the upper face I? and an upstanding point 25 which extends through an aperture 26 in the strap 58. The spur member 23 is preferably molded from a suitable plastic such as Bakelite.
In use the band l2 of the garter H is passed through the slot 20 and is engaged by the spur Los Angeles, Calif.
1938, Serial No. 227,496
It will be seen that discomfort due to tight garv ters is entirely eliminated by my garter grip.
In Figs. 5 and 6 I show a modification of my invention wherein the spur member 23 and aperture 26 are omitted. In the modification the body 30 is made of rubber or other suitable material and includes a strap or loop portion 3| similar to the body l5 and strap [8 previously described. The use of the'modification is similar to that of the main embodiment already described. v
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that I have invented a novel garter grip which is efficient in use and economical to manufacture.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
l.'A garter grip including a flexible disk having a concave lower face, an integral diametral strap spaced above said disk and forming a slot therewith adapted to engage a garter band, ventilation holes communicating with said concave lower face, said disk having an aperture, a spur member positioned Within said disk aper-- ture, said strap having an aperture, said spur extending through said aperture in said strap, said spur being adapted to engage the band of a garter.
2. In a garter, a band, a hose engaging fastener suspended from said band, a garter grip engaging said band, said garter grip including a disk having a concave lower face and having a strap spaced above said disk and forming a slot therewith receiving said band of said garter, a spur member on said disk, said strap having an aperture, said spur extending through said aperture in said strap and engaging said band of said garter.
3. In a garter, a band, a hose engaging fastener suspended from said band, a garter grip engaging said band, said garter grip including a resilient flexible disk having a concave lower face and having an integral diametral strap spaced above said disk and forming a slot therewith securing said band of said garter, ventilation holes communicating with said concave lower face, said disk having a central aperture, a spur member positioned within said central aperture in said disk, saidstrap having an aperture, said spur extending through said aperture in said strap, said spur engaging said band of said garter.
4. A garter grip made of a single piece of rubber and including a resilient flexible limb engaging face member and a resilient flexible strap having its ends integral with said limb engaging member to form a loop adapted to engage a garter band.
5. In a garter, a band, a hose engaging fastener suspended from said band, a garter grip engaging said band, said garter grip comprising a single piece of rubber including a thin, resilient, flexible disk having a concave limb engaging face and having an integral resilient strap, said strap having its ends secured to the flexible disk Within the periphery of the disk and having its intermediate portion free from said disk, said strap forming a slot slidably receiving said band of the garter, the strap being resilient whereby it holds the disk in set place while permitting adjustment of the disk along the band to correct position.
