Application June 2, 1939, Serial No. 277,098
. 3 Claims. This invention relates to a holder out heavy gage wire, such as used for guy wires and which is sold in rolled or coiled form and is extremely diflicult to handle and control when released ofits ties and the primary object of this invention is the provision of a device for receiving the wire in its rolledor coiled form and to retain said wire in said form when the ties thereof are released and which will permit the wire tobe cone veniently payed out as needed without the danger of the wire becoming entangled.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described. and claimed.
For a complete understanding of our invention, -reference is to be had to the following descripticnand accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view illustrating a holder constructed inaccordance with our invention.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view illustrating the same.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line v fully set forth the construction and advantages 5 fragmentary sectional view illustrating, one of the connecting straps showing one end as being hingedlymounted and one of 3-3 of Figure 2.. Figure 4 is an enlarged its opposite end detachably connected-to the annular members of the holder.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral 5 indicates as an entirety a holder composed primarily of superimposed annular members 6 and I. The annular member I is "of a larger diameter than the diameter of the member 6. The members 6 and l are connected together and in spaced relation to each other by substantially U-shaped straps 8 spaced an equal distance apart,
as shown in Figures 1. and 2 of the drawings. The
substantially U-shaped straps extend outwardly of the annular members.
One of the substantially U shaped straps 8' has one end thereof journaled on the annular member 1 while its oppositefend is slotted, as
shown at 9, to receive therein a bolt I carried by the annular member 6 and onwhich is threadeda wing nut ll. ter-named strap to be detached from the annular member 6 for the purpose of swinging saidlatter-named strap on the annular member 1 to permit placing within the space between and also within the other straps a coiled or; rolled wire (not shown). The movable or hinged strap after the placing of the wire within the device is brought into engagement with the bolt and tight- The wing nut l 1, permits thev lat-' for paying 1y secured on theannular member 6 by the wing nut. Thus it will beseen that the wire willthen be confined within the annular members 6 and 7 and the straps so that the usual ties employed for holding'the wire in rolled or coiled form may 5 be released whence the wire expands against the straps and thereby becomes confined within the annular members and said straps. One end of the coiled wire may be then brought through the annular member 1 and payed out, withoutdanger 10 of tangli'ng, to a'desired length whence it may be .cut off.- The free ends-of the wire are normally held by being inserted through any oneof a series ofrings 52 mounted on the annular members 6 v and l to prevent said ends from catching into 15 objects during the moving of the device from one place to another. When the wire is confined within the device it can be easily carriedfrom one place to another/and as before stated, can
be payed out as needed without danger of tangling 2 and with a minimum expenditure of manual effort.
. It is believed that'the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawings will a of ring members of relatively different sizes and smaller diameter than the outside diameter of" v the coil for confining :said coil therebetween, and a plurality of yokes connected to said ring members in laterally spaced concentric relation and 5 spacedapart equidistantly around said members,
saidyokes being outwardly bowed to span the coil transversely. f
2'. A holder fora coil of wire comprisingapair jof ring members of relatively diiferent sizes and 40 smaller in diameter'than the outside diameter of the coil for confining said coil therebetween,
and a plurality of yokes connected to said ring members in laterally spacedconcent'ric relation and spaced apart equidistantly around said members, said yokes being outwardly bowed to span the coil transversely, one of said yokes being a hinged to one of said members and-detachably connected to the other member'for outward swinging to said members. I l
3. A holder for acoil of wire comprising a pair of ring members of relatively difierent sizes and smaller in diameter than the outside diameter of the coil for confining said coiltherebetweem and 5 permitinsertion of-the coil between a plurality of yokes connected to said ring members in laterally spaced concentric relation and spaced apart equidistantly around said members,
said yokes being outwardly bowed to span the coil transversely, one of said yokes being hinged to one of said members and detachably connected
