3 Claims.
The present invention relates to closures for tooth paste tubes and the like and has for its primary object to providean upstanding discharge neck for the tube having a discharge opening therein and provided with a closure'slidably mounted over the neckfor controlling passage through the discharge opening and providing Operating means for said closure in the form of a ring operable b-y a rotary movementto actuate the sliding closure.
A further object is toy provide a device of `this Character of simple and practical construction, Whichis neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise i Well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the aocompanying drawing forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which- Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevational View of a paste tube showing the closure mounted in position on lthe neck of the tube. i
Figure 2 is a similar View taken substantially at `fight angles; from Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a top plan View.
Figura 4 is a Vertical secticnal view.
Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially on a line 5-5 of Figure 1, and
Figure 6 is av detail showing the pin and slot connection between the sliding closure and the rotary Operating ring.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a pr-eferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a conventional type of paste tube having a discharge neck 6 rising therefrom, the neck embodying two flat parallel side walls 1 and a rounded top 8 merging with the remaining side walls 9. The top of the rounded portion of the neck is formed with a dischargeopening lO.
The edges of the side walls 9 are formed with parallel guide ribs I extending over the rounded top 8 and slidably positioned in the channel between the guides is a closure l2, preferably constructed of metal and in ribbonv form and curved in conformity to the rounded'top 8, the ends lof the closure extending in substantial parallelism against the sides 9 as more clearly shown in Figure 4 of the drawing.
The closure 12 is provided with a slotted opendetailed explanation.
ing |3l adapted to register with the opening IO by the'sliding movement of the closure acros the rounded top of the neck. Surrounding the base of the neck is a ring member I 4 having anv internal larcuate slot |5 at difi r ametrically opposite sides and within each of the slots is positioned a pin |6 projecting outwardly from the end portion of the closure |2; The slots are of opposite inclination.
Accordingly, it will be apparent that upon the w rotation of the'ring member 14 around the neck that the arcuate vslots 15 by reason of their engagement with the pin |6 will cause the closure |2 to slide transversely across the top of the neck to move the openings ID and |3 into and out of 15 registering position.
It is believed the details of construction and manner of operation of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further Having thus described the invention what I claim isi i 1. A paste tube closure comprising in combination a paste tube having a neck provided with a rounded extremity and having a discharge opening therein, a closure mounted for sliding movement across the rounded end of the neck and having an opening therein adapted to register with said first narned opening, the ends of the closure extending downwardly along the side of the neckand a 'rotatab'le member carried by the neck and having operative engagement with the opposite ends of said closure to slidably actuateV the closure.
2. A paste tube closure comprising a neck on the tube having a discharvge opening, a guide w channel on the neck extending across the top thereof, a closure slidable in the channel for controlling the opening, a ring rotatably mounted on the neck and having opposite inclined slots in diametrically opposite sides and pins carried by the closure and engaged in said slots to slidably actuate the closure. I r
3. A paste tube closure comprising a neck on the tube having 'a discharge opening, a guide channel on the neck extending across the top thereof, a closure slidable in the channel. for
' controlling the opening, pins carried by the clo-
