Application filed ltovember '10, 1928. Serial No. 673,988.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. HUN'rooN, J r., a citizen of the United States, residing at East Greenwich, in the county of Kent This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in collapsible tubes and the primary object thereof is to provide a tube with improved means for ejecting the v1 contents in the form of a ribbon and without removal of the usual closing cap.
A further object of the invention is to provide novel means for sealing or closing the outlet.
The invention also aims to provide a simple and economical structure and has still further and other objects which will be later set forth and of themselves manifested in the course of the following description.
In the drawings Figure 1, is a top plan view of the invention;
Figure 2, is a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1; the body ofthe tube being sho in fragment;
lgigure 3, is a bottom plan view of the cap an a a Figure 4, is a bottom plan view of a modified form of the cap.
In proceeding in accordance with the resent invention, the body 1 of the tube is of'the usual collapsible type "and has an exteriorly threaded 'neck' .2. The threads however terminate in spaced relation to or are omitted at the inner or base end of the neck leaving a smooth or plain portion indicated at 3.
"'lfhe outer or free end of the neck is formed with an inwardly bevelled or ta ered seat 4 which inclines inwardly towar the interior of the neck.
A cap 5 is threaded over the neck and is rovided with an inwardly extending enargemen-t or portion 6 the periphery of whlch is bevelled or tapered at -7 to form a face which conformably engages the bevelled seat 4.
.The cap is v provided with an elongated outlet slot 8 whlch extends through its outer face and from which extends a pair of opposed arcuate or segmental slots 9, the latter being divergently related and extend- 1ng downwardly through the bevelled face 7 of the cap between the upper and lower portlons of said face.
The curved slots 9 are thus seen to merge into the single outlet slot 8. I j
The lower or inner end of the 'cap is provided with an attenuatedflange 10, the
latter being spun to extend inwardly into the space 3 and to thus engage beneath the threads of the neck, preventing entire removal of the ca a In the modi ed form of the invention preferred form.
In operation, the cap is turned to free t e slots 9 or 12 of the seat 4 whereupon the tube is collapsed, causing the contents to. egress through the slots 9 or 12 and thence outwardly in ribbon form through the single outlet slot 8.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desired to secure by Letters Patent is v p 1. A collapsible tube havinga neck formed with an inwardly tapering seat, and a cap on the neck having a diametrical discharge slot, said cap ,havin an enlarged part formed with a pair of iverg'ent openings each leading from the discharge slot throu h the adjacent bottom portion of the cap, t e enlarged part being peripherally tapered to engage on said seat so as to cause the latter to close the lower ends of the divergent openings.
2.- A collapsible tube havin formed with a circular seat, an a cap on the neck having a diametrical dischar slot and having an enlarged part forme with a pair of openings each leading from the discharge slot through the bottom ortion of the cap, said bottom portion of t e cap a neck 3. In combination with a colla sible tube 5 having a neck with a flared disc arge orifice providing a valve seat on the free end edge of the neck, and a cap threaded on the nozzle and provided with a downwardly facing conical valve for engaging the seat,
said cap having a discharge opening branch- I in into a luralit of orts o enin throu h th e valve E0 be cl sed liy the seat. g g
In testimony whereof. I have signed my name .to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
