Description

. G.L. PLATT.
Button-Hooks.
No. 218,570. Patented Aug. 12,1879.
ffff UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEK GEORGE L. PLATT, 0F WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTON-HOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 218,570, (lated August 12, 1879; application filed June 23, 1879.
To all 'whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE L. PLATT, of Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Button-Hook; and that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making part of this specification.
This invention is in the nature of an improvement in button-hooks; and the invention consists in a button-hook constructed with the ordinary hook to en gage with the button, and a second hook to engage with the buttonhole, substantially as is hereinafter more particularly described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a perspective View of a gaiter, and showing the application of my hook for buttoning the same; and Fig.`2, a side view of the button-hook.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in both figures.
A represents the ordinary shank of a button-hook. At a suitable distance from the handle c this shank is bent into a hook, B, and continuing upward from the end ot' the hook B is a second hook, C, the two hooks 'being of any convenient size and shape.
My button-hook, constructed as above described, is operated by inserting the hooked end through the button-hole b oil the gaiter or glove to be buttoned, encircling the shank ot' the button c with the hook C, and as the button-hook is turned to bring the button to the button-hole, the edge of the button-hole b will enter into the hook B, which will thereby draw the button-hole b to the button c, while at the same time the hook C draws the button to the button-hole, in this way enabling the buttoning to be done with facility, and with bnt one hand, if desired.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire., to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an improved article of manufacture, a button-hook constructed with the ordinary hook to engage with the button, and with a second hook, adjacent to the lirst, adapted to engage with the button-hole of the gaiter or shoe, substantially as and for the purpose described.
GEORGE L. BLATT.
