GARMENT HANGER Filed Dec. 5, 1938 lNVE TOR Patented Sept. 5, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
My invention relates to garment hangers and has as one of the principal objects thereof the provision of a garment hanger so constructed and arranged whereby a number of garments of different types may be reliably sup-ported on said hanger.
Another object of my invention is to provide a garment hanger of the character described which is simple in construction, durable in use, efficient in operation and economical in manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claims and annexed drawing.
Referring to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention.
Figure 2 is an end elevation thereof, partly in section.
In practicing my invention, I provide a garment hanger 5 comprising coat and trouser supporting sections 6 and I respectively. The trouser supporting section I is fashioned with a longitudinally extending arm 8 fashioned intermediate the ends thereof with an upwardly extending right angularly disposed portion 9, the latter, adjacent the upper end, being formed with a pair of spaced bearings Ill between which is hinged, by means of a pivot pin II extending therethrough, a tongue l2 fashioned on the upper end of a vertically extending portion I3 of an axially longitudinally extending arm l4 adapted for action with the arm 8 to clamp therebetween the ends of a pair of trousers or the like. A ring I5 is slidably mounted about the portions 9 and I3 whereby to effect clamping of the trousers between the arms 8 and I4.
The coat section 6 of the hanger is constructed of a length of wire formed with a lower horizontally extending bar l6 disposed within a groove 8a formed in the lower face of the arm 8. The bar I6 is integrally connected to a pair of upwardly converging coat support bars IT by means of arcuate shaped ends l8, the upper ends of which are disposed within grooves 81) formed in the end faces of the arm 8.
The upper ends of the bars I! are angularly disposed toward each other and terminate in upwardly extending portions twisted together and fashioned with a hook l9 whereby to attach said hanger to a supporting member (not shown).
The upper face of the portion 9 is fashioned with a longitudinally extending groove 20 in which is seated the upper angular disposed ends of the bars I? and the lower bar l6 of the section 6 coacts with the upper angular disposed ends of the bars I! to securely maintain the trouser section 1 clamped therein for support by the hook 19.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that I have provided a simple and efficient garment hanger capable of supporting coats and the like on one section thereof and of having clamped thereto trousers or the like on the other section thereof and in a manner whereby the coat section coacts with the trouser section to maintain the latter in connected relation therewith for support thereby.
It is obvious that the invention is not confined to the herein described use therefor as it may be utilized for any purpose to which it is adaptable. It is therefore to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific construction as illustrated and described, as the same is only illustrative of the principles of operation which are capable of extended application in advance forms, and that the invention comprehends all construction within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A hanger of the class described, comprising, a trouser supporting section having a pair of horizontally extending pivoted arms for clamping and supporting trousers therebetween and one of said arms formed with a longitudinally extending groove, said last mentioned arm fastened with an upwardly extending portion having an upper face formed with a groove, and a coat supporting section having spaced lower and upper bars disposed in said first and second mentioned grooves respectively whereby to secure said trouser supporting section thereto for support by said coat supporting section.
2. A hanger of the class described, comprising, a trouser supporting section having a pair of horizontally extending pivoted arms for clamping and supporting trousers therebetween and one of said arms formed with a longitudinally extending groove, said last mentioned arm fastened with an upwardly extending portion having an upper face formed with a groove, and a coat supporting section having spaced lower and upper portions disposed in said first and second mentioned grooves respectively whereby to secure said trouser supporting section thereto for support by said coat supporting section, and means fashioned on said coat supporting section for supporting the latter and said trouser supporting section in suspended condition.
