This invention relates to an eyelash curler and one of its objects is to provide a curler which may conveniently, comfortably and efficiently be used to quickly give an attractive appearance to the eyelashes. Another object is to provide an eyelash curler having an oval cup adapted to iit into the socket of the eye and carrying a concavo-convex guard to be comfortably placed on the upper eyelid of the eye. Other objects, advantages, and features of the invention will be more readily understood from the following detailed description considered in connection with the accompanying drawing in which:

Fig. 1 is a perspective View showing the use of an eyelash curler according to my invention.

Fig. 2 is an elevational view, partly in section, of the type of eyelash curler shown in Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is an end view of Fig. 2.

Fig. 4 is an elevational view, partly in section, of the curler shown in Figs. 1 and 2 arranged within the eye socket and in clamped relation against the eyelash of the upper eyelid.

Fig. 5 is a view of the curled eyelashes after application of the curler; and

Fig. 6 is an elevational view, partly in section, of another embodiment of the invention.

Referring to the drawing for a more detailed description thereof, and at first to Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, which show one form of the invention, the numeral 'I indicates an oval open cup which is adapted to comfortably t into the eye socket to be placed against the eyelids. The upper part of the cup is provided with a concave guard member constituting a fixed jaw 8 which is concave on the face to be applied to the upper eyelid and has a lower V-shaped edge 8Ei adapted to t into a corresponding V-shaped groove of another member, subsequently to be described, to effect proper crimping of the eyelashes. It will be noted that the edge 8a is appropriately arched to correspond substantially to the curvature of the upper eyelash line and it is to be understood that the edge 82L is to be placed over and on the upper eyelashes and adjacent the upper eyelid. A yoke 9 extends from, and is secured to, or integral with the closed rim 'la of the frame or cup 1 and a handle II! extends from the middle of the yoke and is secured thereto or is integral therewith. A slot Ii is formed in the handle IIJ and in the adjacent central part of the yoke to receive a member I2 which is pivotally mounted, intermediate its ends, to the handle, by a pin I3. Said pivotally mounted member I2 is adapted to coact with the lower edge 8a of the guard 8 to effect crimping and curling of the upper eyelashes and,

to that end, the member I2, at its distal end, comprises a curved jaw I2ETL having the same curvature as the edge 8EL and is adapted to exert pressure upwardly on the edge 8a when the manipulating end I2a of the member I2 is pressed downwardly by the lingers of the user, as shown in Fig. 1. To effect crimping and curling of the eyelashes, jaw I2a is provided with a V-shaped groove I2b adapted to receive the corresponding shaped lower edge 8a of the guard member 8. In using the device, the V-shaped groove I2b is brought up against the lower sides of the upper eyelashes, and manual pressure on the manipulating end of the member or lever I2 brings the curved jaw I2a to press the eyelashes against the upper arcuate edge 8a of the fixed jaw 8 thereby crimping the lashes in the groove I2*EL and curling them upwardly as shown in Fig. 5.

Y A spring I5 is secured at one end to the lower face of the member I2, above the pivot point, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 while the other end of the spring, which is curved, is retained in the inclined surface Illa at one end of the slot II. The spring I5 exerts pressure on the lever I2 to hold the jaw normally thereof in open position, as shown in Fig. 2, necessitating pressure on the manipulating end I2c to bring the jaw I2b up to the edge 8a for curling action.

Referring now to Fig. 6, which shows a modied form of the invention, the device in this form is constructed in the same manner as is the form shown in Figs. l, 2 and 3, with the exception of the spring.v Fig. 6 shows a cantilever spring 2U which has one end embedded in the handle ID. The forward portion 20 of the spring is curved to t the lower cam shaped surface I2d of the pivotedA member or lever I2 and extends forwardly of the pivot I3 to exert upward pressure Aon the forward end of the member I2 to normally hold the jaw thereof against the edge a of the guard 8. Thus, in using this form of the invention, the manipulating end of the pivoted member I2 is first raised manually from adjacent the handle I0 to put the device in open position. Thereafter the oval frame is fitted into the eye socket with the eyelashes to be treated interposed .between the kfixed and movable .jaws and clamped thereby when manipulating end I2c is depressed after which the jaws are again opened to permit removal of the crimped lashes and the spring 2li normally holds the jaw in a closed relation.

While the invention has been described in detail and many modifications and specific applications thereof have been referred to, the invention herein is not limited to such specific applications and it is intended that all matter shown in the accompanying drawing and particularly described in detail shall be interpreted as illustrative.

I claim:

1. An eyelash curler comprising a frame adapted to fit in an eyesocket and adapted to be placed on eyelids, a guard carried by the frame and having a shaped lower edge adapted to contact over the lashes of said lid, a handle carried by said frame, and a pivotally mounted member adapted to contact under the said lashes and to exert upward pressure against the lower edge of the guard and having a groove adapted to receive the lower edge of the guard.

2. An eyelash curler comprising an oval and open frame adapted to fit in an eye socket and adapted to be placed against companion eyelids, a guard carried by the frame and having a lower edge adapted to contact over lashes of said upper lid, a handle connected to said frame, and a pivotally mounted member adapted to contact under said lashes and to exert upward pressure against the lower edge of the guard and having a groove adapted to receive the lower edge of the guard, said groove being so formed Vthat the eyelashes will be curled upwardly when pressed thereinto.

An eyelash curler comprising a frame adapted to t into an eye socket and adapted to be placed on eyelids, a guard carried by the frame and having a lower edge adapted to contact over upper lashes, a handle connected to said frame, and a pivotally mounted member adapted to contact under the upper lashes and to exert upward pressure against the lower edge oi the guard and having a groove adapted to receive the lower edge of said guard, said groove being so formed that the eyelashes will be curled upwardly when pressed thereinto, and a springrexerting pressure on the grooved member.

An eyelash curler comprising a frame adapted to t in an eyesocket and adapted to be placed on an upper eyelid, a guard carried by the frame and having a curved lower edge adapted to contact over lashes of said lid, a handle connected to said frame, and a pivotally mounted member adapted to Contact under said lashes and to exert upward pressure against said lower edge and having a groove adapted to receive the lower edge of the guard, said groove having means to that said eyelashes will be crimped and turned upwardly over said guard when pressed into said groove.

An eyelash curler comprising a frame adapted to t into an eye socket and adapted to be placed around 'an eyelid and` thereagainst, a guard depending `from an upper part of said frame and having a lower curved edge adapted to Contact over lashes of said lid, a'handle connected to said frame, and apivotally mounted member adapted to contact under said lashes and to exert upward pressure .against said lower edge and having a curved groove adapted to receive said lower edge of the guard, said groove having means so that the eyelashes will be crimped and turned upwardly when pressed into said groove,

and a spring interposed between said pivoted member and handle.

6. An eyelash curler comprising an elliptically shaped frame adapted to t in an eye socket and adapted to be placed around an eyelid, a curved guard depending from an upper part of said frame and having a lower edge adapted to contact over lashes of said lid, a handle carrying said frame, and a member pivoted to said handle and adapted to contact under said lashes and to exert upward pressure against the lower edge of said guard and having a groove adapted to receive the lower edge of the guard, said groove having means so that the eyelashes will be crimped and turned upwardly towards the body of said guard when pressed into said groove.

An eyelash curler comprising a frame adapted to be placed around an eyelid, a guard carried by the frame and having a lower arcuate edge adapted to contact over lashes of said lid, a yoke extending from said frame, a handle connected to said yoke, and a member pivotally carried by said handle and adapted to contact under said vlashes and to exert upward pressure against the -lower edge of the guard and having a groove adapted to receive said lower edge of the guard.

8. An eyelash curler comprising an oval open `frame adapted to fit into an eye socket and adapted to be placed around an eyelid, a guard carried by 'the `frame and having a lower edge adapted to contact over the upper lashes, said guard iilling the upper part of the frame and having a concave face to Contact said eyelid, a handle connected to said frame, and a pivotally mounted member carried by said handle and adapted 'to contact under said lashes and to exert upward pressure against vsaid lower edge and having a groove adapted to receive said lower edge.

9. An eyelash curler comprising a frame including an oval shaped and closed rim, a curved guard extending Vinwardly from said frame and merged with said rim and defining with the lower part `of said rim an opening to permit the insertion .of eyelashes between the lower portion of said rim and lower part of said guard, a handle extending forwardly of said rim, and a lever pivoted to said handle and having a jaw coacting with said lower edge to crimp said lashes.

10.`An eyelash curler having, an oval shaped `:frame to :fit an eye socket, a handle secured to said frame,'and a jaw pivoted to said handle and cooperating with said frame to crimp eyelashes interposed therebetween.

l1. An eyelash curler having an oval shaped frame including a closed rim to iit an eye socket, and pivoted means carried by said curler to crimp eyelashes against said frame.

12. An eyelash curler comprising an oval shaped member having a closed rim to contact an eyelid and having means to serve as an abutment, a handle projecting forwardly of said rim and carried by said curler and a movable jaw for crimping eyelashes against said abutment.
