The invention relates to a toy comprising a handle member to which a rope is attached in such a manner that its two ends project from the end thereof. It is well known that children find great pleasure in playing with ropes and in performing all kinds of tricks by swinging, and otherwise manipulating, such ropes.

The main object of the present toy is to provide a device, such as described, with which a great many feats of skill may be performed. Another object is to provide a toy of the type in which the rope may be used as a single rope or as a double rope, of either equal or unequal lengths. A still further object is to provide simple means for securing and changing the rope. Additional objects are to make a toy of the class described which is neat in appearance, which is sturdy and not easily broken, which when not in use can be stored away so as to occupy but small space, and which can be manufactured and sold at a relatively low price.

These and various other objects and advantages will be readily understood from the follow ing description and from the accompanying drawing of preferred embodiments of the invention, in which, however, modifications might be made without departing from the scope of the appended claims. In the drawing:

Fig. l is a front elevation of the toy, shown partly in cross-section;

Fig. 2 is a similar front elevation but shown with the ends of the ropes being spun or manipulated by the operator;

Fig. 3 is another front elevation, shown with the ends of the rope wound around the handle member;

Fig. 4 is a top view; and

Fig. 5 is a top View of a slightly modified device.

Referring now to Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, the toy consists of a handle member Ill provided with an enlarged head H through which two holes l2 and i3 are drilled, as plainly shown. A hole I4 is also drilled transversely through the handle member immediately below the head. The upper ends of the holes l3 and I4 are preferably bellmouthed. A rope I5 is threaded through the holes in the head of the handle member, as plainly shown, and the ends of this rope may be provided with light weights l6 and IT, or the ends of the rope may merely be knotted.

It will be seen that if the handle member l0 is grasped in the hand, so the toy is held either whatever position it is placed in, the rope may readily be drawn completely through to one end, so that, for example, the ball l6 will engage in the hole I2. Thus one single rope is obtained with which various tricks may be performed.

In like manner the ends of the rope may be made of uneven length to perform still other tricks. When the toy is not in use the rope may be wound on the handle member, as plainly shown in Fig. 3. The toy may also be provided what I claim as new and Wish to protect by Letw ters Patent is:

l. A toy of the class described comprising a handle member, an enlarged head formed at one end of the handle member, two spaced holes drilled in the head parallel with the axis of the toy and on opposite sides of and outside the handle, a transverse hole drilled through the handle member near the head, and a rope threaded through said holes in such a manner that the ends of the rope will extend outside of the said head.

2. A toy of the class described comprising a handle member, an enlarged head formed at one end of the handle member and having a substantially fiat top, two spaced holes drilled in the head parallel with the axis of the head and outside the handle member and forming right-angles with the top of the head, a transverse hole drilled through the handle member adjacent the head, a rope threaded through said holes in such a manner that the ends of the rope will extend outside of the said head, and the sizes of the rope and holes so proportioned that the rope will be frictionally held in the holes in whatever position placed.

3. A toy of the class described comprising a handle member, an enlarged head formed at one end of the handle member and having a substantially fiat top, two spaced holes drilled in the head parallel with and equidistant from the axis of the toy and outside the handle member and forming right-angles with the top of the head, a transverse hole drilled through the handle member adjacent the head, a rope threaded through said holes in such a manner that the ends of the rope will extend outside of the said head, and the rope adjustable in said holes so that the lengths of each end of the rope may be varied as desired.
