(01. 101-132) This invention relates broadly to duplicators and more particularly to a gelatin duplicator having a cylinder adapted for ditto films.
An object of the present invention is to provide in a duplicator of the character mentioned an improved device for holding and feeding the sheets of paper to be printed upon to the cylinder of the duplicator; and the invention together with its objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:-

Referring to the drawings by reference numerals it will be seen that the duplicator consists of a supporting frame including base strips 5-5 from which rise sides 6.
Supported between the sides 6 adjacent one end thereof is a film cylinder I mounted on a shaft 8. Shaft 8 is rotatably supported between the sides 6 and is equipped at one endv with a crank 9 to facilitate manual rotation of the cylinder.
As is well-known the cylinder I carries the adhesive duplicating surface such as a film sheet provided with suitable attaching means, such as metal ends having hooks to hold the sheet in place upon the cylinder, the hooks at one end of the film sheet being suitably engageable with a reinforced edge Ia of the cylinder, and the hooks at the opposite end of the film sheet being engageable with a retaining bar I supported between a pair of arms 2 pivoted to the end portions of the cylinder I within the latter as at 3.
For placing the film sheet under tension springs 4 are provided, and these springs are anchored at one end to the ends of the cylinder I and at an opposite end to the arms 2 normally urging the arms towards one side of a slot 5 provided in 55 the periphery of the cylinder and through which access may be had for engaging said hooks on the film roll with the bar I.
Supported between the sides 6 is a table It and to receive the advancing edge of each sheet of paper as it feeds from the table I6 there is provided just behind the table IS a pressure roll Ill which is rotatably supported between a pair of arms I I pivoted at one end to the sides 6 as at I2. The arms II are normally urged upwardly to contact the roller It with the paper and also to cause the roller ID to press the paper into contact with the advancing duplicating surface through the medium of springs I3 secured to the upper ends of the arms II and also to brackets I4 mounted on the inner sides of the membersfi as best shown in Figure 3.
Provided on the table I6 are opposed adjustable paper guides I'I between which the stack of papers is disposed. Each guide I1 is provided with a slide l8 working in a transverse track l9 provided therefor. For each slide. I8 there is provided an adjusting screw 20 that has threaded engagement with a slide. Each adjusting screw 20'has one end suitably journaled in a partition block 2| arranged intermediate the ends of the track I9 which latter extends from one side to the other of the table I6. On the outer end of each adjusting screw 20 is a crank 20'. It will thus be seen that the guides I! are movable to the desired position of adjustment laterally relative to one another independently of one another, and as may be required due to the width of the paper placed therebetween.
At the forward end of the table l6 there is provided a shove-off device 22 which serves to raise the leading edge of the paper to direct the paper into engagement with the pressure roll II).
To facilitate the feeding of the paper sheet by sheet to the cylinder I in suitably timed relation to the speed of rotation of the cylinder I there is provided a feed device which includes a pair of arms 23 pivoted at one end thereof to an arm 23' provided on a shaft 24 rotatably supported between the sides 6. Carried by the arms 23 is a head 25 in the form of a U-shaped member of metal or other suitable material the sides of which at the open end of the U are formed to provide sleeves or otherwise to accommodate rods 26 through the medium of which the head is secured between the arms 23. The outer surface of the head 25 is provided with a covering of rubber or other suitable friction material 28 to effectively and successively engage the sheets for feeding the latter from the stack successively to the cylinder 1.
For guiding the feeding head on its return stroke there is provided a guide rod 29 that ex tends through the free end portions of the arms 23 and has its end portions engaged with inclines or ramps 30 which at one end are pivoted as at 3| to the sides 6. The ramps 30 are in the form of angle strips and on the return movement of the head 25 the rod 29 rides on the top side of the flanges of the ramps 30 causing the head 25 to move upwardly out of engagement with the paper on the return stroke of the head. Obviously, upon the completion of the return stroke of the head 25 the rod 29 rides ofi the ramps 30 at the ends of the latter permitting the head 25 to drop down so that the surface 28 thereof will engage the uppermost sheet to the end that as the head 25 moves forwardly said sheet will be fed thereby to the cylinder 1.
For operating the feeder head 25 in properly timed relation to the cylinder 1 there is provided on the end of the cylinder shaft 8 which is remote from the crank 9 a crank arm 32 while a crank arm 33 is provided on one end of the aforementioned shaft 24. A connecting rod or link 35 connects the crank arms 32, 33 so that obviously as cylinder 1 revolves drive is transmitted therefrom to the shaft 24 for oscillating the latter to thereby operate the head 25 in a manner, as before explained, to feed the sheets successively to the cylinder '1.
It will thus be seen that with a duplicator embodying the features of the present invention the sheets are substantially automatically fed to the cylinder and in properly timed relation to the speed of rotation of the cylinder.
Also, and as clearly shown the brackets 14 at the upper ends thereof are suitably formed to support therebetween a stripper rod I5, A second stripper rod 36 is suitably supported at the side of the cylinder I opposite to the stripper rod I5 through the medium of brackets 31 mounted on the sides 6 of the frame. As is thought to be obvious the function of the stripper rods l5 and 35 is to remove paper from the film after the impression has been made on the paper. By providing the stripper rods l 5 and 36, one to be used by right-handed people and the other for use by left-handed people the sheets of paper may be readily removed from the gelatin surface without the use of gears as is now generally nequired. It will also be appreciated that the printed paper will lay flat if properly stretched as the sheets are hand-drawn over the selected stripper rod, and in actual practice it will be found that without resort to the stripper rods the paper will curl.
It is thought that a clear understanding of the construction, utility and advantages of an invention of this character will be had without a more detailed description.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:-
1. In a duplicator of the character described, a duplicating cylinder, and stripper rods fixedly mounted at diametrically opposite sides of the cylinder for use in preventing curling of sheets as said sheets are drawn out of their impression contact with the duplicating cylinder.
2. In a duplicator of the character described, a duplicating cylinder, and right and left-hand stripper rods fixedly mounted at opposite sides of the cylinder, as and for the purpose specified.
