IMPROVEMENT IN CORSETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 215,560, dated May 20, 1879; application filed March 14, 1879.
To all 'whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I` EVEEETT W. BIGELOW, of Boston, of the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Corsets; and do here by declare the same to be described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of whichy Figure 1 is a front view, Fig. 2 a transverse section, and Fig. 3 a rear 'view of the front parts, of one form of duplex-husk corset provided with my invention. view, Fig. 5 arear view, *and Fig. 6 a transverse section of the front portions, of another form of duplex-husk corset having my invention.
The distinctive feature ot difference between the two forms may be thus described: In one,
or that exhibited in the first three figures, the main and auxiliary busks a b are in pockets of the two front parts, A B,of the corset, the auxiliary busk being in frontof tliemainbusk. In the other form or construction the auxiliary busk is in two parts, b b', which are arranged in pockets iu the parts A B, and are provided` with studs c and eyes or clasps d, to connect them, (the said husk parts.) The main busk a is detachable from the auxiliary husk, and `is arranged in rear of it.
Fig. 4 isafront` mainly, it' not entirely, by the outer busk, and
the cloth is thereby saved from being torn away by the Shanks or fastenings of the buttons.
Therefore I do not pretend to claim connecting one article or part of a garment to another by a series of buttons and button-holes; but
I claim- In a dupleX-busked corset, the underlapped i portion, steel, or husk provided with buttons,
in combination with the overlappin g or other i portion provided with button-holes arranged next or alongside of the busk or husk-pocket of such portion, al1 being substantially as specified. l
