Description
A. D. JUDD. Bracket.
No. 215,523. Patented May 20,1879.
c, and their ends are spreat UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
' ALBERT D. JUDD, OF ORANGE, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT lN BRACKETS.
' Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 215,523. dated May 20, 1879; application filed Deccmber 23, 1878.
To all, whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT D. Juno, of Orange, in the State of New Jersey, have invented an Improvement in Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
I make use of a clamping device by which the bracket can be reinovably connected with .be obtained in the most convenient directions. In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan of the bracket as attached to a vertical bar or other support. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same, and-Fig. 3 is a cross-section at 00 w.
The clamps a and b are hinged together at I apart, and terminate as claws d, that project inwardly. The
screw 6, that passes through one jaw and works in a nut in the other jaw, is used for drawing the jaws toward each other and clamping the support f, and causing the claws d to enter thereinto suiiiciently to hold the bracket firmly to the sash, window-frame, or
other support.
The joint 0 is made with a socket-block. h, the hole in which receives the stud '5 in the joint-blockk, and this supports the bracket 1, the parts being united by the joint m.
There is a holding-screw, a, in the socketblock h, which firmly holds the stud i in said socket. This construction allows the bracket 1 to be always placed vertically, and the grasping-jaws a b to be turned on the stud L into either a horlzontal or a vertical position, and the parts secured by the screw n. The stud i .should be recessed for the end of the screw it.
In order to adapt the clamp to b to support ing the bracket with the clamp either vertical or horizontal, it is necessary that the block it should be made in one piece with one of the clamps to or b, so as not to turn when the hinge c is horizontal. The other clamp is therefore only hinged at c to the block h at the junction thereof with the clamp.
The bracket I may be either single or double, and terminate with any suitable stand or holder. I have shown the open-work dish a" at the end of the bracket adapted to receive a flower-pot or vase, a shaving-mug, or other useful or ornamental article.
There is a vertical hole in the joint-block k to receive the pivot s of the frame it, that supports a mirror, it. This construction allows the mirror to be turned in any direction to accommodate the light, or the person shaving by or otherwise using the glass.
I claim as my invention- I 1. The clamps to I), provided with the claws d, and hinged together at c, in combination with the clamping-screw 6, block h, formed with one of the clamps, and the mirror-frame and vertical pivot, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with the bracket and its supporting device, of the stud i, joint-block 7c, socket-block h, and clamping-screw n, for varying the position of the supporting device in relation to the bracket, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination of the clamps to b, screw 0, joint-block 7c, bracket 1, mirror-frame t, pivot s, and joint in, substantially as set forth.
Signed by me this 14th day of December,
A. D. JUDD.
