Description

April 18, 1939. w A J, AN ER N 2,154,652
BUBBLE BLOWER Filed Aug. 18, 1938 INVENTOR ATTORNEY ALFRED I. ANDER$0N Patented Apr. 18, 1939 UNITED, STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to a bubble blower toy.
The general purpose of the invention is to provide a bubble blower with a receptacle for soapy Water which may be supported on the end of a blow pipe and with which is associated a dipper type of blow nozzle which is arranged to be shifted between a position in which it dips into the soapy water receptacle and a position to one side of the receptacle whereby a bubble may be blown downwardly beneath the device, the shiftable nozzle being shifted to and fro between each blowing ofthe bubble, so as to pick up a film of soap water from which each bubble is blown.
The foregoing and other purposes of the invention are attained in the bubble blower shown in the accompanying drawing and described below. It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific form thereof shown and described.
Of the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan view, partly broken away and in section of a bubble blower embodying the invention.
Figure 2 is a section along line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral I designates a suitable blow pipe which may have a mouth-piece H at one end thereof, and at the other end is provided a receptacle I2 which may be encircled by a cylindrical member [3, there being a space at [4 to one side of or beyond the receptacle also enclosed by the member l3. A dome l5 may be mounted over the cylindrical member and may carry thereon a suitable orna- 0 ment such as a pump l6, as shown, which is not a part of the present invention and which is used for trade-mark or design significance. Any suitable ornament may be placed on the top of the dome [5.
A crank shaft [1 is journalled in the cylindrical member and is operable from the outside thereof by a manually operable knob l8. The crank shaft 11 has freely journalled on the crank thereof a blow nozzle l9 which is connected by a flexible duct or conduit 20, which may be of vulcanized rubber, with the inner end of the blow pipe H), the connection being made to the top of the nozzle by attaching the flexible rubber tube to a nipple 2|. The flexible conduit 20 is upwardly looped between the inner end of the blow pipe and the blow nozzle so that owing to its resilient nature it tends to urge nozzle l9 to a horizontal position, the nozzle turning on the crank of the crank shaft I! for this purpose.
The crank shaft is so arranged that the nozzle may be swung or shifted between the dotted line position shown in which it dips into the liquid in the receptacle l2 and the full line position shown to one side of the receptacle in the space I4 whereby the bubble indicated at B in Figure 2 may be blown from the nozzle downwardly below the bubble blower.
Modifications of the invention may be resorted to without departing from the spirit thereof or flexible connection between the inner end of the blow pipe on which said receptacle is supported, and the blow nozzle.
2. A bubble blower comprising a blow pipe, a receptacle for liquid mounted on an end of the blow pipe, a blow nozzle, means for shifting the blow nozzle between a position dipping into the receptacle and a position to one side of said receptacle in which a bubble may be blown and a flexible connection between the inner end of the blow pipe on which said receptacle is supported, and the blow nozzle, said shifting means comprising a crank shaft mounted on the receptacle and said blow nozzle being journalled on the crank of said crank shaft, said flexible connection being looped between the inner end of the blow-pipe and the top of the blow nozzle whereby the blow nozzle is held in a substantially horizontal position by the flexible tube when it is dipped into the receptacle or when it is positioned at one side of the receptacle for blowing a bubble.
3. A bubble blower comprising a blow pipe, a receptacle for liquid mounted on an end of the blow pipe, a blow nozzle, means for shifting the blow nozzle between a position dipping into the receptacle and a position to one sideof said receptacle in which a bubble may be blown and a flexible connection between the inner end of the blow pipe on which said receptacle is supported and the blow nozzle, said receptacle being encircled by a cylindrical member enclosing the space to one side of the receptacle into which said nozzle is shiftable for blowing a bubble and said cylindrical member having a dome for covering said receptacle and said space.
