1 Claim.

This invention relates to a device for carrying chaining pins used by a surveyor, the general object of the invention being to provide spring latch means on a supporting member with which the heads of the pins can be readily engaged by a slight pressure and the pins just as easily removed from the latch means, with means whereby the device can be supported from the belt of the user.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.

In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention.

Figure 2 is an edge view thereof.

In the drawing, the numeral l indicates an elongated base member formed of leather or other suitable material and the numeral 2 indicates a metal plate connected with the upper portion of the member I by rivets 3 or the like. A pin carrying member 4 is provided with a straight lower part which is riveted or otherwise connected to the plate 2 and from this straight part the memher 4 has an upwardly and outwardly sloping part 4' and from this part the member slopes upwardly and toward one side of the plate 2 and then extends vertically upward as at 4" and terminates in an eye forming part 5. Thus the major portion of the member is spaced from the plate. The spring latch part is shown at 6 and has its end coiled as at I to engage the eye and said member curves upwardly and away from the eye part 5 and backwardly and downwardly as at 8 to join the flattened part 8 which is riveted or otherwise fastened to said plate 2.

As will be seen, the spring member 6 normally has the coil or eye part 1 engaging the eye 5 of the member 4, but by placing the ring-shaped head a of a surveyors chaining pin A over the member 5 and exerting a slight pressure on the pin against the member 6 said member 6 will move away from the eye part 5 so that the head of the pin can slide down the part 4" and come to rest on the part 4' of the member 4.

A loop member ID is connected with the lower part of the member I for receiving the lower ends of the chaining pins so as to prevent the same from swinging when the surveyor is walking.

Slots H are formed in the top of the member I to receive the belt of the user and an elongated hook member I2 is connected with the top of the member I for hooking over a belt or other garment part so that the device can be easily and 5 quickly attached and detached.

Thus it will be seen that I have provided simplemeans for enabling a surveyor or the like to carry a plurality of chaining pins along with him without carrying the pins in his hand or in 10 a pocket, with means whereby the pins can be readily put in place on the device or removed therefrom.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.

It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

A pin carrier of the class described comprising an elongated fiat base member of flexible material, a metal plate connected to the upper portion of the base member, a pin carrier formed from a bar and shaped to provide a base portion con.- nected with the plate and vertically arranged, a second part sloping upwardly and forwardly from the base part, a third part sloping upwardly and towards one side edge of the plate from the second part, said third part paralleling the plate and a fourth part extending vertically upwardly from the third part and having its upper end 5 rounded, and a latch member for holding pins on the carrier, said latch member including a base part vertically arranged and attached to the plate and a spring part of substantially inverted U- shape with one limb connected with the base part and its other end rounded and engaging the upper portion of the fourth part of the carrier, said U-shaped part extending outwardly and toward said fourth part of the carrier to contact the same, means for connecting the upper ends of the flexible base member to an article of clothing, and a metal strap of substantially U-shape connected with the outer face of the lower end of the flexible base member and receiving the lower ends of the pins carried by the device.
