Description

17, 1 939. G VAN DYKE I 2,144,516
BRUSH 'FASTENER Filed April 13, 1958 I Patented Jan. 17, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to brush fasteners and.
has for the primary object the provision of an efiicient and inexpensive device of this character which may be easily and quickly applied on a 5 brush to prevent the handle thereof from becoming accidentally detached from the brush head.
With these and other objects in View, this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts 10 to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed. I
For a' complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary transverse sectional view showing a brush equipped with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view of the present invention.
Figure 3 is an end view illustrating the invention.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a brush head, 2 the bristles thereof and 3 the handle. The brush head has screw 25 threaded socket openings 4 and the handle 3 has a screw threaded end 5 which may be threaded in either of said openings 4. When brushes of this character are in use, the heads thereof become accidentally unthreaded from the handle 30 and to obviate this objection or disadvantage the present invention is employed and consists of a split clamp 6 having a bolt 1 and a nut 8. The split clamp B is placed about the handle 3 adjacent the head and is tightly secured thereon by the bolt and nut. A curved arm 9 is formed on the split clamp and extends over the head and carries at its free end a projection ill in the form of a plug, adapted to enter one of the openings 4. The projection has a snug fit with the opening and will prevent the arm and clamp from rotating with the handle. As the handle cannot be rotated relative to the head with the present invention adapted to the brush the head will be prevented from becoming accidentaly unthreaded from the handle. It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
The combination with a handle and a brush including a head having a pair of threaded socket openings therein, either opening being adapted to threadedly receive the handle for securing the latter to the head, of a fastener comprising a split clamp, means for securing the clamp to the handle and with the latter threaded in one of said openings, an arm curved for disposal over the head and having one end formed on the clamp to extend at right angles therefrom, a plug secured to the outer end of the arm and mounted in the other opening to prevent the head from unthreading from thehandle, and said plug being of a shape to snugly fit either of said openings.
