Description
GEORGE BLANCHARD, OF NEW' YORK, N. Y.
WATER-CLOSET.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 21,407, dated September 7, 1858.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE BLANCHARD, of the city of `New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Preventing People from Standing on the Water-Closet Seats; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a metallic or wooden frame O C (as will be seen in the accompanying drawing) attached to stanchion K by means of a bolt or pin L, so that the frame may easily swing or rock to and fro, and the frame C C having a rod or bolt B running horizontally through the bottom of the frame, so that the two feet pedals A A may gravitate upon the bolts or rods BB, to keep the frame and seat properly adjusted, the two pedals A A being hinged to the floor so as to admit of the rocking frame C C to fall back if the person stands on the seat, the
lower end of the swinging frame C C having a platform D so arranged, that when the frame swings back, platform D immediately raises two bars of metal or wood E and F which are attached to the door, so that bar E unbuttons the door and bar F unlatches it, at the same time, platform D forcing open the door. The swinging frame C C has a rim seat J so arranged, as to pass by the metal pot, when the seat rim is gravitated by the feet.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The arrangement of the swinging frame C C, the pedals A A, the bolt B B, the seat J, the two bars E and F the platform D, substantially as described as and for the purpose specied.
GEORGE BLANCHARD.
