LUG S TRAP SUPPORT Filed March 29, 1938 M72 0 Herrari ATTORNEYS Patented Dec. 20, 1938 UNITED STATES ;P.ATE NT'aOFFlCE 1 Claim.
The invention relates to a lug strap support and more especially to a lug strap hanger and reinforcement device.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein there is eliminated breakdowns caused by the wear and breakage of the lug strap hanger or power strap in looms and also such device can be easily and quickly regulated, reducing the wear thereon to a minimum and avoiding the use of screws or other like fasteners in the picker sticks with the result that safety is assured to the operator or attendant of the loom.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein reinforcement is assured to the lug strap or power strap of a loom and also that friction in the working of the said strap in association with a picker staff or stick is reduced to a minimum, the fasteners for the device being disposed to avoid beams of yarn being snagged as the same are trucked or hauled between looms in side aisles or alleys thereto and also avoids the fasteners for such device being engaged in the picker stick which weakens the same and also such stick will be reinforced at the point of the lug strap or power strap.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple in its construction, easy of application without requiring the removal of the stick or staff from the loom, thoroughly reliable and eificient in operation, strong, durable, avoiding the removal of the lug strap from the picker stick on the application of the said device into operating position and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a picker stick of a loom showing the lug or power strap in position thereto and the device constructed in accordance with the invention applied, the latter being partly in section.
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the line 22 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken approximately on the line 3-3 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is an enlarged vertical longitudinal sectional view through the device and the lug or power strap in association therewith.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, It designates generally a picker stick or staff of any wellknown type, being generally made from straight grain hard wood and having as usual a hole H for the purpose of attaching the strap (not shown) of a parallel-motion device for a loom.
Carried about the picker stick or staff I 8 is the long lug strap l2, its connection being indicated at I3 with an operative part of a loom. The strap I2 is fastened to the connection I3 at M and as usual is looped about the picker stick or staff I 8 while correlated with the said strap I2 is the strap I 5 which in its width is substantially the width of the picker stick or staff If] and is adjustably disposed at the outer side thereof or the outermost longer narrow edge of the same. The looped strap I2 is accommodated in an eye or open frame unit [6 having an upstanding ear I! at the uppermost portion thereof and this ear cooperates with a clamping plate l8, these being adapted for disposition crosswise of the picker stick or staff above the plane of the strap I2. Carried through suitable clearances in the ear I! and plate l8 are headed bolts l9, these being disposed at opposite sides of the picker stick or staff I!) and upon their ends next to the plate I8 are threaded the nuts 20 bearing against washers 2| and 22, respectively, about the said bolts and between the plate l8 and the said nuts 28.
The ear I! straddles the strap and by the nut-carrying bolts Hi this strap will be clamped in working position upon the stick or staff M, being carried through the strap [2 in this position. The eye or frame unit IS in that side next to the stick or staff II] is provided with a seating channel-or groove 23 of a size to accommodate the said strap l5 and portion adjacent thereto of the stick or staff l0 being clearly shown in Figure 4 of the drawing.
The eye or open area 24 of this unit H5 is of a size to loosely receive the strap [2 when the latter is looped about the stick or staff [0 in a manner as shown in Figure 3 of the drawing. The sides, top and bottom edges confronting the eye or opening 24 in the unit l6 are preferably rounded at 25 minimizing contacting area of the strap I2 with the unit l6 and thus decreasing friction in the operation of the picker stick or staff II].
By the bolts l9, the unit l6 with the strap I5 can be conveniently regulated with relation to the stick or staff [0 and these bolts have their heads 26 outermost of the stick or stafi l0 while the nuts 20 are innermost toward the loom and in this way snagging of yarn during haulage thereof in the aisles or alleys between the looms using the device will be entirely avoided or eliminated.
