Description

Dgc. 20,1938. M. E. 'BOUSTEAD HUMIDIFIER Filed Dec. 27, 1937 LBo watead INVENTOR WTNESS ATTO R N EYS Patented Dec. 20, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to humidifiers and has for the primary object the provision of an efiioient, port-able and inexpensive device of this character which may be readily associated with a stove or some oher heating medium for moistening the heated air derived therefrom and which is so constructed as to permit the area of water within the device exposed to the heated air to be easily varied.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention,
reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view, partly in section, showing a humidifier constructed in accordance with my invention and showing the same installed in a conventional type of heating medium.
Figure 2 is a side elevation showing the shutters for controlling the exposed area of water to the heated air.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view showing the means of securing the shutters in their adjusted position.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary side elevation showing said means.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral l indicates an oven of a stove, 2 the door for opening and closing said oven. Many times the oven is employed for heating a room or the like. Heat received from an oven will be dry and to 5 moisten this heat so as to render it proper for heating the room my invention is positioned in the oven and consists of a tray 3 containing water and has the upper edges of its vertical walls notched, as shown at 4, to receive lugs 5 of a frame 6. The frame 6 provides a removable mounting for a plurality of shutters 7 adapted to coact with each other in controlling the area of the water exposed. The shutters are pivoted on the frame and are connected with each other by a tiebar 8 to cause said shutters to move in unison. The tiebar 3 is pivoted on the shutters, as shown at 9. One of the end shutters has secured thereto a control arm Ill capable of being flexed and operates in conjunction with a plate I I secured on the tray and provided with a series of openings I! in which the finger piem iii may engage for securing the shutters in their various adjusted positions. The heat or" the oven passing over the water becomes moistened suitable for the heating of a room and to regulate the amount of moisture to the heat the position of the shutters may be varied by the manipulation of the hand piece l0.
What is claimed is:
A humidifier comprising a tray to contain liquid adapted to be positioned in an oven of a stove and having notched upper edges, a frame for said tray and including projections to seat in said notches, a plurality of shutters journaled on said frame and coacting with each other for varying the area of exposure of the liquid in the tray to the heat of the oven, connecting means between said shutters, a plate secured to said tray and having a series of openings, and a flexible finger piece secured to one of the shutters and engageable with one of said openings for securing the shutters in variable adjusted positions.
