A match packet comprising a sheet of flexible material folded in a plurality of directions with the lines of folding intersecting, and a plurality of match supporting means having groups of matches supported therein, said means being arranged between opposed folded portions of the flexible material, one portion of the flexible material extending continuously across the several match supporting means and being cut out to form projecting advertising features.

5. A match packet comprising a cover bent into substantially U-shape, a partition member of corrugated form, sheet material secured on opposite sides of the corrugated partition member, the sheet material and corrugated partition member forming compartments to receive matches, the sheet material on one side of the partition including a safety flap extending about the edge of the partition member in closing relation over the inner ends of the compartment about the head portions of the matches, and means for securing the partition and sheet material as a unit to the walls of the cover.

A match packet comprising a cover of flexible material, said cover having a foldedv portion defining a flap and forming a plurality of match supporting sections, said cover being folded along a line transversely of the first line of folding to provide a book-like form, said flexible material being recessed at the area of intersection of the lines of folding to facilitate the second folding operation, said flap extending continuously across, and forming parts of, the match supporting sections and being cut out to provide projecting advertising surface, said sections being provided with compartments, matches disposed in the compartments and projecting therefrom, each match including a length of strip material provided with an intermediate shank portion with ignitable head at one end and a substantially fiat enlarged handle portion at the other end forming an advertising surface arranged in contiguous relation with adjacent fiat handles of adjacent matches to form a substantially continuous series of advertising surfaces, each compartment having igniting friction material on its inner wall surfaces whereby each match head will frictionally contact with the friction material upon withdrawal of a match from a compartment.

A match packet comprising a U-shaped cover, a partition in the cover dividing the packet into two sections for holding matches, said partition extending from the bight of the U- shaped cover outwardly beyond the outer marginal portions of the legs of the U-shaped cover to provide advertising surfaces on opposite sides of the partition beyond the cover edges.

A match packet comprising a U-shaped cover, a partition in the cover dividing the packet into two sections, a group of matches disposed in each section on each side of the partition, said partition extending from a location adjacent the bight of the U-shaped cover beyond opposite side portions of the cover for shielding matches on one side of the partition from matches on the other side of the partition along substantially their entire length.

A match packet comprising a single sheet of material arranged in folded form to provide a U-shaped cover, a partition having two laminaations providing a wall of double thickness and dividing the packet into two sections for holding matches, said partition extending from the bight of the U-shaped cover outwardly beyond the outer marginal portions of the legs of the U-shaped covor to provide advertising surfaces on opposite sides of the partitions beyond the cover edges, the outer edge of the partition being defined by a fold, a leg portion of the U-shaped cover merging integrally with each lamination of the partition.

10. A match packet comprising a single sheet of material arranged in folded relation to provide a U-shaped cover, said cover including a partition having two laminations providing a wall of double thickness and dividing the packet into two match holding sections, formed into compartments, a group of matches disposed in each section on each side of the partition, each match including a length of flexible material provided with an intermediate shank portion with ignitable head at one end and a substantially flat enlarged handle portion at the other end forming an advertising surface arranged in contiguous relation with adjacent fiat handles of adjacent matches to form a substantially continuous series of advertising surfaces, each compartment having igniting friction material on its inner wall surfaces whereby each match head will frictionally contact with the friction material upon withdrawal of a match from a compartment.

A match packet comprising a cover of flexible material bent into U-shape, a match holding unit including a series of spaced match containing compartments, means for securing the unit in the cover with compartment ends covered by the bight of the U-shaped construction, one wall of the U-shaped construction extending beyond the unit of compartments, and a series ofmatches having lines of division along common end portions thereof with such end portions disposed in contacting edge to edge relation, the other matchend portions being disposed in spaced relation corresponding substantially to the spaced relation of the series of compartments, said other matchend portions having ignitable heads fitting into the several compartments and having their opposite said common end portions defining enlarged handles projecting o-utside the compartments, in terior Walls of said compartments being provided with friction material whereby the matches are ignited when withdrawn therefrom.

A match packet comprising a cover, a partition in the cover dividing the packet into two sections, a series of matches having enlarged handle portions disposed in contacting side by side relation to form a substantially continuous advertising surface, said matches having reduced ignitably headed shank portions, means separately inclosing headed shank portions of the individual matches in each of the sections, said partition extending from adjacent edge portions of the cover for shielding the matches on opposite sides of the partition from one another along substantially their entire length, and means for striking the individual matches as they are withdrawn from the packet.

This invention relates to match packets and it has particular relation to a combined match packet and advertising medium.

The invention relates to an invention disolosed in my previously filed application Serial No. 644,866, filed November 29, 1932.

One object of the invention is toprovide an improved cover or holder for matches that is composed of flexible material, such as card ":board, or the like, and in which the individual matches are enclosed in individual cells or compartments that are provided with striking material to insure igniting of the matches when they are withdrawn from the packet or cover.

in the natural course of handling the packet and detaching matches therefrom, the several advertising sections will be automatically presented to the user.

A plurality of groups 28 of match receiving cell-like compartments 22 are secured by adhesive, or the like, between the advertising wall sections l7 and I8, and each group is composed of a corrugated partition strip 23 and a backing strip 25 that is disposed along one side of the group of compartments. A safety extension or flap 26 of the backing strip 25 covers the inner ends of the corrugations of the compartments throughout the structure and extend partially up the other side of the group of outer compartments. A plurality of matches 2i cut from sheet material and having enlarged flattened handles 28 are disposed in the compartments 22 with their igniting ends 24 adjacent the bight iii of At the outer ends of the compartments 22 suitable match striking material 29 is connected or otherwise applied circumferentially on the inner surfaces of the corrugated strips and backings 25 to insure striking material entirely surrounding each match. The circumferential contour of the striking material in each compartment conforms generally to the circumferential contour of each -match head.

The several groups 28 of match receiving compartments are supported between the wall sections I1 and I8 by securing means, such as adhesive, or the like.

Proper book-like action of the cover along the lines I6 is insured because the groups 28 are spaced slightly from these lines and their edges are disposed parallel thereto. Thus, each match is completely and separately enclosed along its head end, and since the flaps 26 seal the inner ends of the compartments 22 they prevent flame from escaping to the user's hands or to the other matches when one of the matches is being withdrawn and ignited or struck.

As best shown in Fig. 2, the wall sections l8 7 terminate adjacent the outer ends of the matches and the edges of these sections are considerably spaced from the edges of the wall sections l1. Thus the handle ends 28 of the matches are exposed against the inner surfaces of the outer wall sections l1 and these ends of the matches are shielded when the packet is viewed from the outside or in its closed position (Fig. 1). These handles 28 also provide a substantially continuous surface in each group 20 upon which suitable advertising matter can be applied.

It will be observed that the tabs or handles 28 are considerably wider than the body portions of the matches and provide convenient handles which can be grasped conveniently between the fingers for removing individual matches from the packet. The contiguous, handles of the matches are held-in assembled relation inxthei compartments of the packet to provide a substantially continuous surface across the face of,. the cover for suitable application of various kinds of advertising matter.

A match packet comprising a sheet of flexible material folded in a plurality of directions with the lines of folding intersecting, .said material being recessed at the folding intersection, a plurality of match supporting means having groups of matches supported therein, said means being arranged between opposed folded portions of the flexible material, one portion of the flexible material extending continuously across the match supporting means to provide a continuous advertising surface.

A match packet comprising a sheet of flexible material folded in a plurality of directions with the lines of folding intersecting, and a plurality of match supporting means having groups of matches supported therein, said means being arranged between opposed folded portions of the flexible material, one portion of the flexible material extending continuously across the several match supporting means and being cut out to form projecting advertising features.

5. A match packet comprising a cover bent into substantially U-shape, a partition member of corrugated form, sheet material secured on opposite sides of the corrugated partition member, the sheet material and corrugated partition member forming compartments to receive matches, the sheet material on one side of the partition including a safety flap extending about the edge of the partition member in closing relation over the inner ends of the compartment about the head portions of the matches, and means for securing the partition and sheet material as a unit to the Walls of the cover.

A match packet comprising a cover of flexible material, said cover having a folded. portion defining a flap and forming a plurality of match supporting sections, said cover being folded along a line transversely of the first line of folding to provide a book-like form, said flexible material being recessed at the area of intersection of the lines of folding to facilitate the second folding operation, said flap extending continuously across, and forming parts of, the match supporting sections and being cut out to provide projecting advertising surface, said sections being provided with compartments, matches disposed in the compartments and projecting therefrom, each match including a length of strip material provided with an intermediate shank portion with ignitable head at one end and a substantially fiat enlarged handle portion at the other end forming an advertising surface arranged in contiguous relation with adjacent flat handles of adjacent matches to form a substantially continuous series of advertising surfaces, each compartment having igniting friction material on its inner wall surfaces whereby each match head will frictionally contact with the friction material upon withdrawal of a match from a compartment.

A match packet comprising a U-shaped cover, a partition in the cover dividing the packet into two sections for holding matches, said partition extending from the bight of the U- shaped cover outwardly beyond the outer marginal portions of the legs of the U-shaped cover to provide advertising surfaces on opposite sides of the partition beyond the cover edges.

A match packet comprising a U-shaped cover, a partition in the cover dividing the packet into two sections, a group of matches disposed in each section on each side of the partition, said partition extending from a location adjacent the bight of the U-shaped cover beyond opposite side portions of the cover for shielding matches on one side of the partition from matches on the other side of the partition along substantially their entire length.

A match packet comprising a single sheet of material arranged in folded form to provide a U-shaped cover, a partition having two laminaations providing a wall of double thickness and 1 dividing the packet into two sections for holding matches, said partition extending from the bight of the U-shaped cover outwardly beyond the outer marginal portions of the legs of the U-shaped cover to provide advertising surfaces on opposite sides of the partitions beyond the cover edges, the outer edge of the partition being defined by a fold, a leg portion of the U-shaped cover merging integrally with each lamination of the partition.

10. A match packet comprising a single sheet of material arranged in folded relation to provide a U-shaped cover, said cover including a partition having two laminations providing a wall of double thickness and dividing the packet into two match holding sections, formed into compartments, a group of matches disposed in each section on each side of the partition, each match including a length of flexible material provided with an intermediate shank portion with ignitable head at one end and a substantially flat enlarged handle portion at the other end forming an advertising surface arranged in contiguous relation with adjacent fiat handles of adjacent matches to form a substantially continuous series of advertising surfaces, each compartment having igniting friction material on its inner wall surfaces whereby each match head will frictionally contact with the friction material upon withdrawal of a match from a compartment.

A match packet comprising a cover of flexible material bent into U-shape, a match holding unit including a series of spaced match containing compartments, means for securing the unit in the cover with compartment ends covered by the bight of the U-shaped construction, one wall of the U-shaped construction extending beyond the unit of compartments, and a series of matches having lines of division along common end po tions thereof with such end portions disposed in contacting edge to edge relation, the other matchend portions being disposed in spaced relation corresponding substantially to the spaced relation of the series of compartments, said other matchend portions having ignitable heads fitting into the several compartments and having their opposite said common end portions defining enlarged handles projecting outside the compartments, interior walls of said compartments being provided with friction material whereby the matches are ignited when withdrawn therefrom.

A match packet comprising a cover, a partition in the cover dividing the packet into tWo sections, a series of matches having enlarged handle portions disposed in contacting side by side relation to form a substantially continuous advertising surface, said matches having reduced ignitably headed shank portions, means separately inclosing headed shank portions of the individual matches in each of the sections, said partition extending from adjacent edge portions of the cover for shielding the matches on opposite sides of the partition from one another along substantially their entire length, and means for striking the individual matches as they are withdrawn from the packet.
