IM PROVEM ENT IN BELL-TOYS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 212,537, dated February 25, 1879 application filed December 31, 1878.
Ta all whom it fmay concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUs BRUNNER, of New York city, of the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bell-Toys, of which the following is a specification:
My invention is fully represented in the accompanying drawing, to which reference is made.
The object of this invention is to furnish a neat toy for the amusement of children, which is attractive both to the eye and ear-to the former by the movements of a toy figure, to the latter by the tinkling of a bell; and the invention consists of a wheeled frame carrying a fixed bell, and a revolving gure or wheel that turns in supports of the frame, and is set in motion by mechanism connecting the shaft of the figure with one of the axles of the wheeled frame.
Referring to the drawing, A represents a wheeled frame or platform, of sheet metal, wood, or other material. To the frame or platform A is attached rigidly, in inverted position, a bell, B. In bearings of upright standards C is supported a horizontal shaft, D, which is revolved by a pulley and crossbelt connection with one of the axles of the wheeled frame, or by other equivalent mechanism. To the revolving sha-ft D is rmly attached either a toy figure, E, having pendent balls E at the ends, or a crank-wheel having a number of such balls, which strike successively the bell when the gure or wheel is revolved. To the forward end of the wheeled frame A is attached a string, F, by which the toy is pulled and moved forward over the iloor or other support. The motion of the frame A imparts rotary motion to the figure or wheel E, and causes the pendent balls E to strike successively against the bell, so as to sound the same.
The motion of the .ligure attracts the eyes of the child, while the tinkling of the bell attracts the attention of the ears, so that the child is fully occupied in playing with the toy, the same forming thereby a neat and amus ing bell-toy for small children.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. As an im provementin bell-toys, the coinbination of a wheeled supporting-frame, carrying a fixed bell, with a revolving gure or wheel supported on the frame, and having pendent balls, that strike successively the bell, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of a wheeled frame, A, carrying the fixed bell B and upright standards C, with a horizontal shaft, D, a toy ligure or wheel E, having pendent balls E', and with mechanism that connects one of the axles of frame A with shaft D, so as to revolve the same, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 28th day of December, 1878.
JULIUS BRUNNER. Witnesses:
