' 4 Claims.- (01. 132-49)" My present invention relates to cosmetic receptacles and more particularly to an improved combined lipstick receptable and mirror.
My invention is designed to combine in a 5 .single structure a two-part cosmetic receptacle such as a lipstick receptacle in which the lipstick holding element is ordinarily housed within a cover carrying a. mirror. In carrying out my invention I provide a lipstick holder for car- 10 rying a supply of lipstick cosmetic and means for slidably moving the lipstick longitudinally of the holder. This holder is adapted to be housed within a cover or housing which normally protects the lipstick cosmetic when not in use.
, 15; and an integral-part of the cover or housing serves as means for engaging the feed device for the lipstick cosmetic to bring the lipstick cosmetic into housing position in its holder and within the receptacle itself when the recepa tacle is placed within the housing.
l itting into a recess formed in one side of. the lipstick housing is a mirror of superficial dimensions practically coextensive with the dimensions of one of the sides of the cover or 25 housing and which mirror may be employed by the user of the lipstick cosmetic to guide her in the use of the cosmetic. Forming an integral part of the cosmetic holder is a spaced cover plate which, when the lipstick holder is housed 30 within the cover or housing, is guided over the mirror and shields .thesame from dirt, abrasives and the likewhen the device is not in use.
A feature of my invention is an improved cosmetic receptacle and holder.
'85 A feature of my invention is an improved combined cosmetic holder-and receptacle.
A feature :of my invention is an improved combined lipstick receptacle and mirror.
In the accompanying drawing,
40 Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a combined lipstick'receptacle and mirror embodying my invention and illustrating the manner cfmanipulating the same.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the lipstick re- 45 ceptacle and enclosing casing therefor shown in a separated position and with the lipstick cosmetic protruding outward from the receptacle.
Fig; 3 is a bottom plan view of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is an assembly view of the lipstick cos- 50 metic receptacle and enclosing holder showing the same in telescoped position.
Fig. 5 is a sectional. sideelevation on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4, and y Fig. 6 is a sectional end elevation on line Referring to the drawing, II designates a lipstick receptacle of any desired contour in cross section but preferably rectangular, provided on one face thereof with an elongated slot ii. one end of the receptacle is closed as by the end 5 plate l2. Slidabl'y mounted within the receptacle ill is a. cosmetic stick carrier ii in which is 'fitted or held the inner end cl 2. stick cosmetic l4. Extending laterally outward froth one face of the carrier I3 is a. stud I! which ex 10 tends through the slot Ii and is provided with a head it and by means ofwhich the carrier Il may be moved longitudinally of the receptacle l0, thereby moving the lipstick cosmetic ll into the position shown in Figs. 2 and 3, or into the position shown in Fig. 5.
The end plate I2 is of greater superficial area than the ,area of the end of the receptacle I! and one side thereof is oii'set with respect to the receptacle ill, assho'wn for example in Fig. 2, and attached thereto and parallel to and spaced apart from the adjacent face of the receptacle i0 is a cover plate I1 backed by a reinforcing plate I 8, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 5.
l9 designates a cover or housing for the receptacle it. One end of the cover or housing I! is open, and the other endis closed by a plate 20 which may be and preferably is formed integral with the housing IS. The lipstick cosmetic receptacie III has a sliding fit within the cover or housing l9. On one face or side offthe housing I! is formed a slot 2! which, is adapted to engage with the head It of the stud I! when the receptacle it is slid into the cover or hens-.- ing it thereby moving the cosmetic carrier. II as A to a position adjacent the end plate 12 and thereby bring thefstick of cosmetic ll within the limits of the receptacle ll.
- The portion of the cover or housing ll, opposite the side of the housing in which is formed the slot 2|, is insetwithin the limits of such i covec'or housing, as clearly shown in Fig. 6.
such side being designated for convenience by e the reference numeral 22. This member 22 deto the length of the cover Ol. housing is and is Y of a width substantially equal to the width of so the member 22. Also the combined'thickneu of the side 22 and mirror 23 is slightly less than the space between the cover plate I! and the adjacent face ofthe receptacle". Itwillthereforebeapparent Ills,
the lipstick cosmetic ll into position within the telescoped into the cover or housing is the cover plate ll will moveover and enclose the mirror 28, protecting the same from possible injury or breakage for construction reasons it is desirable to. have the cover plate I! ofless length than the receptacle I0, I find it advantageous to place in the space between the side walls of the housing 1!, above-the mirror 23 and adjacent to the end wall 20 a plate 25 against which the end of the cover plate .11 abuts, as clearly shown in Figs. 4 and 5.
When it is desired to use the combined lipstick receptacle and mirror the person operating the same will ordinarily grasp the cover or' housing I! in the left hand, as shown in Fig. 1, and with the receptacle l0 grasped in the right hand, as shown in Fig. l. ce'ptacle II are then separated from-each other as shown in Fig. 1 and the operator by moving the stud Ii slides the lipstick cosmetic ll out of =the receptacle IQ into the position illustrated in the cover or housing is without first so doing,
thereby bringing the head I. of the stud I! into engagement with the end of the slot 2!, whereupon further movement of the receptacle III to a position within the cover housing I! will force receptacle ll. Alsosimultaneously with the movement of the receptacle II to a position within the cover or housing is the cover plate II will move into position in the cover or housing I. and over the mirror 23 and therefore into a position topromct the mirror}! from possible my invention by reference to specific forms thereof, it will be understood that many changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit ofthe invention Llnadevieeoftheklnddescribedthecombination of a cosmetic holder. apover into which the eosmeticholder telescopes to protect the The cover housing is and resame when not in use, a mirror carried by the cover, and a cover plate carried by the cosmetic holder and enclosing-the mirror when the cosmetic holder is telescoped to a position within the cover. a j
