' TWIN SWEATER SET Filed Sept. 29', 1956 INVENTOR BY 2 z E ATTORNEY Patented May 31, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT oFF cE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a twin sweater set.
The invention has for an object the construction of a twin sweater set which is characterized by an inner sweater and an outer open sweater associated therewith and producing a cape effect.
The invention has for an object to so arrange the sweater set that the sweaters may be constructed from various stitches such as link, flat, 10 circular, and others.
Still further the invention proposes to arrange the inner sweater with a throat opening similar to that of a polo shirt and an arrangement for closing the opening as desired.
15 Another one of the objects of this invention resides in constructing the outer sweater with a raglan sleeve eiTect or with a straight sleeve efiect, whichever design is preferred.
Still further an arrangement is proposed for 2 holding the throat portion of the outer sweater closed, preferably with frogs, links or the like.
Another one of the objects of this invention is to construct the bottom corners of the open front of the sweater of square formation.
Still further it is proposed to associate straps with the square corners mentioned in the previous paragraph by which the extent to which the outer sweater is opened may be controlled.
For further comprehension of the invention,
30 and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
35 In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:-
Fig. 1 is a perspective View of a twin sweater set constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional View taken on the line 40 2-.-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary enlarged detailed view similar to the lower portion of Fig. 1 but illustrating a modified construction.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 45 4-4 of Fig. 3. a
The twin sweater set, according to this invention, comprises an inner sweater Ill and an outer open sweater ll associated therewith and producing a cape effect. These sweaters preferably 50 should be constructed of knitted material of desired stitches such as link, flat or circular. The inner sweater is formed with a throat opening [2 simulating the opening in a polo shirt and which is adapted to be closed with links or frog clos- 55 ings l3.
The outer sweater has sleeve constructions M of raglan or straight efi'e'ct, depending on the design desired. The outer sweater is also provided with a collar I5. In the instant form of the invention the sleeves iii of the inner sweater 5 II] are short. The outer sweater is formed with a front opening II, the top portion of which is held closed with a link element l8, or frog element, or similar closure element. The lower corners IQ of the outer sweater at the front are of square design.
The inner sweater Ill preferably should be form-fitting to engage around ones waist. The outer sweater is adapted to give a cape effect.
In the form of the invention shown in Figs. 3 and 4 there is a provision by which the opening ll of the outer sweater may be set to various conditions. In each of the corners IQ of the outer sweater there is a pair of straps and 20* attached at their outer ends to the bottom edge 20 portion of the outer sweater and extended towards each other.
The inner ends of these straps connect with a buckle construction 2| provided with holding elements 22 cooperative with the straps to hold them 5 in various adjusted positions. Thus, the corners may be allowed to remain flat or may be contracted to different degrees so as to produce folds along the front.
The buckle element 2| is provided with a snap fastener element 23 which is engageable with one of several fastener elements 24*, 24 24, etc., arranged in a horizontal row and attached on the inner sweater II]. In addition to gathering the corners of the outer sweater, it is possible to locate the buckle 2| at various positions and so control the openings of the front of the outer sweater.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus. described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:-
1. A twin sweater set comprising an inner sweater, and an outer open sweater associated 5o therewith and producing a cape effect, the bottom corners of the front opening of said sweater being square, and each bottom corner being provided with, a pair of straps attached at their outer ends to spaced portions of the middle of the outer sweater, on the inner face thereof and extended towards each other, a buckle for holding said straps in relative positions, and coacting elements on the buckle and on the inner sweater for holding the buckle in various relative positions to the inner sweater.
2. A twin sweater set comprising an inner sweater, and an outer open sweater associated therewith and producing a cape efiect, the bottom corners of the front opening of said sweater being square, and each bottom corner being provided with a pair of straps attached at their outer ends to spaced portions of the middle of the outer sweater, on the inner face thereof and extended towards each other, a buckle for holding said straps in relative positions, and coacting elements on the buckle and on the inner sweater for holding the buckle in various relative positions to the inner sweater, said latter means comprising a snap fastener element on the buckle engageable with complementary snap fastener elements on the inner sweater.
3. A twin sweater set comprising an inner sweater and an outer open sweater associated therewith and producing a cape effect, the bottom corners of the front opening of said outer sweater being square, and each bottom corner being provided with a pair of straps attached at their outer ends to spaced portions of the middle of the outer sweater, on the inner face thereof and extended towards each other, a buckle for holding said straps in relative positions, and coacting elements on the buckle and on the inner sweater for holding the buckle in various relative positions to the inner sweater, said latter means comprising a snap fastener element on the buckle engageable with complementary snap fastener elements on the inner sweater, said buckle being constructed of a piece of material formed with two buckle portions directed away from each other and separated by an intermediate portion to which said snap fastener element has been attached.
