J., assignor to American Lithographic Division of the United States Printing and Lithograph Company, a corporation of Ohio Application May 8, 1937, Serial No. 141,391
3 Claims.
This invention relates to display devices and particularly to that class thereof which is adapted to be erected in display position and also to be folded into substantially flat condition for packing and shipping in quantity.
To these ends and others which will appear later herein my improved display device comprises features illustrated in one embodiment and which may be the preferred form, in the drawings accompanying this specification, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective elevation of the device in its erected display condition.
Fig. 2 is a side view of what is shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 shows the device folded in the flat for packing and shipping, one corner being broken away to better show the construction.
Fig. 4 is an end elevation of what is shown in Fig. 3, with the several panels slightly separated to show clearly the folding.
Fig. 5 is a plan View of the blank which is folded into the form of Figs. 1, 2 and 3.
Fig. 6 is a modification of what is shown in Fig. 5.
The scale of Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive is the same, and may be the actual size of one embodiment of my improvements. The scale of Figs. 5 and 6 is about three quarters of that of the earlier figures.
For purposes of illustration, the particular embodiment of my improvements herein, shows a standing device carrying a representation of a glass of beverage which the device is adapted to advertise and is suitable for use as an ornamental display on a restaurant table. Obviously, other sizes of displays and advertising any of a variety of commodities fall within the scope of my improved device.
Referring now particularly to Figs. 5 and. 6 which are alike except for the downwardly reaching extension of Fig. 6, my improved device comprises a pair of symmetrical middle panels 2, 3 articulated along their dividing line 4, and terminating right and left in ears 5, 6. Said ears are attached to said panels by score lines I, 8 respectively along which lines said ears are adapted to fold when the device is erected in display position, Fig. l.
The line of articulation 4 of panels 2, 3 extends across ears 5, 6 and those ears have their top and bottom edges beveled as at 9, In of ear 5, for purposes to be explained presently.
Adjoining panels 2, 3 are opposite symmetrical panels II, I2, articulated along lines I3, I4, to panels 2, 3 all respectively. Upstanding from the upper edge I 5 of panel I I and foldably connected therewith is display panel I6 of any desired conformation. Extending downwardly from panel i2, and foldably connected therewith along line I1 is short panel l8, adapted to be secured, by an adhesive or other convenient means, when the device is folded, to the lower portion of display panel I6, lines I5 and I1 coinciding, Figs. 1, 2.
The front and back of display panel I6 is adapted to carry printed advertising matter, as are also the fronts of panels I I, I2. To obviate the necessity and expense of printing on both faces of display panel I6, in some cases short panel I8 is extended downwardly as at I9, Fig. 6, thereby duplicating display panel I6, so that when the device is assembled, downwardly extending portion I9, backs display panel I6.
For erecting the display, panels 2, 3 are spread apart at their lower edges, Figs. 1, 2, panels 2, 3 being in one plane, and ears 5, 6 are folded up inwardly at right angles to panels 2, 3, whereby the beveled edges thereof, as 9, II] of ear 5, fit against the inner faces of panels II, I2 thereby maintaining the device in erect position.
To collapse the device for folding into flat form, ears 5, 6 are folded out into the plane of panels 2, 3. Then said panels 2, 3 are folded along line 4 against each other, Fig. 4.
Having thus described my improved device, what I claim is:
1-. A collapsible display device including in combination, a pair of middle panels articulated along adjoining edges, a pair of ears extending right and left from said middle panels respectively and articulated thereto, opposite adjoining panels articulated to the outer edges of said middle panels, said. ears being beveled at their opposite edges respectively for engagement with said adjoining panels, a display panel articulated to the upper edge of one of the adjoining panels, a panel articulated to the lower edge of the other adjoining panel, and means for securing said panel to the back of the display panel.
2. A collapsible display device including in combination, a pair of middle panels articulated along adjoining edges, opposite adjoining panels articulated to the outer edges of said middle panels, means attached to said middle panels for maintaining said adjoining panels in spread position, a display panel articulated to the upper edge of one of the adjoining panels, a panel articulated to the lower edge of the other adjoining panel, and means for securing said panel to the back of the display panel.
3. A collapsible display device including in combination, a pair of middle panels articulated along adjoining edges, opposite adjoining panels articulated to the outer edges of said middle panels, opposite upstanding means attached to said middle panels for maintaining said adjoining panels in spread position, a display panel articulated to the upper edge of one of the adjoining panels, a panel articulated to the lower edge of the other adjoining panel, and means for securing said panel to the back of the display panel.
ALBERT KOEBLE.
