Description
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a sad-lron UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
GEORGEFENCIL, OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT lN SAD-IRON HEATERS.-
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 210,108', dated November 19, 1878 1 application filed May 15, 1878.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that LGEoRGE FENormof Dubuque, in the county of Dubuque, and in the State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sad-Iron Heaters; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
heater, as will be hereinafter more fully'set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which` l Figure l is a plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a detailed plan view, showing one of the receptacles open. Figs. 4 and 5 are detailed views of parts of my invention.
A represents a plate cast with three depending chambers, B B, more or less. The intention is that this plate A shall t an ordinarysized cook-stove, the same as the wash-boiler does, and the chambers B be below the surface ofthe stove in the fire-box. The chambers B are made in the form of a atiron, and are open at the top. Each chamber is provided with two half-covers, C C, corresponding somewhat in shape with the form of the chambers. At the toe these covers are geared together by a few cogs, a, as shown, and both are provided with pins b for pivotingthem to a bar, D, whichcovers theinner ends of all the lids, and is fastened to the plate Ay by bolts. One of the pins b for each set orpair of lids-projects above the barD, andto the same is secured a handle, F, so that by slightly turning said handle both the lids may be opened or closed, as maybe required. In the inner edges -of the lids C are slots .fr for the passage ot' the handle of the sad-iron. On the top of the plate A, near the outer ends of the lids, are formed lugsfl, and the adjacent portions of the lids, at their outer edges, are made beveled, so that in opening any set of lids they will ride up over the adjacent ones.
One of the lids of each pair is provided with a projection, h, by means of which the lids may be opened without the use of the handle F.
I I are handles at the ends of the plate A for lifting the heater.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I Vclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv l l. A sadiron heater composed of a plate, A, of suitable size to t a stove, cast with a series ofr depending chambers, B, and each chamber provided with geared covers C C, substantially as herein set forth.
2. The combination of the' covers C C, connected together by cogs a, the pivot-pins b, bar D, and handle F, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
3.- 'Ifhe lugs or ribs d formed on the plate A, in combination with the swinging covers C, having beveled edges, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 12th day of April, 1878.
GEORGE FENGIL. Witnesses:
H. AUBREY ToULMrN, THOMAS FARRELL.
