Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM F. BARKER, OF 'LEMARS, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HEATING-DRUMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 210,082, dated November 19, 1878 application filed October 31, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. BARKER, of Lemars, in the county of Plymouth and State of Iowa, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Heating-Drums and Dummy-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The drawing is a representation of a sectional elevation of my invention.
This invention has relation to drums and dummy-stoves, and has for its object to pro ride or construct a device of the above character that will be double-heating, the general construction of the parts being hereinafter described, and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing, Ais the drum, which may be of sheet-iron or other suitable metal, provided with a central pipe, B, extending below the drum a sufficient distance to connect thereto a stove or other suitable heating apparatus. Around the central pipe, B, is secured one or more convex deflecting-plates, a, which deflects or throws the heat in an outward direction against the sides of the drum. Near the bottom of the drum is a sleeve, I), to which may be attached the elbow of a suitable stove-pipe, as represented at c, which draws the heat as it passes up through the central pipe, B, in a downward direction to the bottom of the drum.
The top 0 of the drum may be made adjustable and removable to obtain access to the interior of the drum, when found necessary and when designed for cooking, an opening may be made in the removable top 0.
The. central pipe, B, and deflecting-plates a may be made of cast or sheet iron, and the drum can. be used as a dummy-stove in. the story above, if desired.
I am aware that heating-drums having a central pipe passing up into the same are not new, and I therefore do not wish to be understood as claiming, broadly, such a device, but
What I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The drum A and central pipe, B, having secured around the same convex deflecting-plates a and pipe 0, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM F. BARKER.
