COMBING MACHINE FOR WOOL, COTTON, AND THE LIKE Filed March 16, 1936 Patented Nov. 2, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE COMBING MACHINE FOR. WOOL, COTTON signor vorm. Rich. Qhemnitz, Germany to Sachsische Textilmaschinenfabrik Hartman Aktiengesellschaft,
Appiication March 16, 1936, Serial No. 69,183 In Germany April 18, 1935 3 Claims.
This invention relates to combing machines for W001, cotton, silk, hemp, flax and the like, and particularly to a device for drawing off or detaching the mass of threads presented by the grippers.
In the combing machines of known type the device for drawing off or detaching the mass of threads consists of a pair of coarsely fluted rollers arranged opposite the grippers, a travelling belt moving between these rollers. The clamping point of the two rollers is relatively far distant from the grippers, this distance depending on the radius of the rollers and on the number and shape of the flutes. A rather large portion of the combed. mass of threads remains consequently at every drawing oii between the clamping point and the top comb gripping into the mass of threads directly in front of the drawing off rollers.
In order to reduce this inconvenience and to increase the efficiency of the machine an ar rangement is provided according to the invention by which the clamping point of the drawing-off device is placed as closely as possible to the top comb. With this object in view the drawing-01f device consists of a drawing-off roller in conjunction with a protruding lip, which advances beyond the vertical central plane of the roller.
Two embodiments of the invention are illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing in which- Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 show each in side elevation one of the two different devices for feeding and drawing-off or detaching in the position after the drawing off has been completed.
a designates the feeding grid with the feeding comb 19 adapted to be raised and lowered, and c the grippers which are opened in the position of the device which is shown in the drawing. 11 designates the commonly used cylindrical comb and e the top comb. Opposite the feeding device an endless travelling belt of known type guided over rollers g is arranged, by which the masses of threads drawn-off from the feeding device are conveyed.
In the form of construction shown in Fig. 1 the drawing-off device consists of a roller h arranged above the travelling belt and of this travelling belt itself. The travelling belt is guided around a stationary block 2, terminating in a kind of lip 0 at the end which faces the feeding device, so that the travelling belt forms at this point a depression under the roller h. As Fig. 1
shows, the front clamping point between the travelling belt and the rollers is very close to the top comb 6, so that only a small portion of the combed mass of threads remains behind after the drawing off. After fresh feeding the top 5 comb drops into the mass of threads only if the threads of the mass have already been gripped by the drawing-off device.
The block 1', around which the travelling belt I is guided, can be provided at suitable points with 10 one or more guide rollers 70 for the travelling belt in order to reduce friction.
In the form of construction shown in Fig. 2 the travelling belt 7 is guided as usual over two rollers g whereas the block i with the protruding 15 lip o rests on the travelling belt. This block is pivotally mounted on an axle n and pressed on the belt by a spring 'm so that a kind of resilient flap is produced. In this instance the lip 0 projects downward contrary to the first form of 20 construction.
1. A drawing off or detaching device for combing machines, comprising in combination an endless travelling belt, rollers guiding said belt, a 5 block and a protruding lip on said block on the detaching side extending partly around the periphery of one of said rollers and adapted to press the fibres onto a large surface of said travelling belt.
2. A drawing off or detaching device as specified in claim 1, comprising in combination with the travelling belt, one guide roller in the end of said travelling belt remote from the detaching side, the block with the protruding lip in the 5 travelling belt at the detaching side, a roller resting on said travelling belt at the detaching side behind the protruding lip of said block, said belt being pressed on a large area of its surface against said last mentioned roller by said protruding lip, 40 and a roller on the lower surface of said block for guiding said travelling belt.
3. A drawing off or detaching device as specified in claim 1, comprising in combination with the travelling belt, two guide rollers one in each end part of said belt, a block with protruding lip oscillatably mounted above and resting upon said travelling belt, said lip conforming to the periphery of said second guide roller projecting downwards over the portion of said belt resting on said second guide roller, and. a spring pressing on said block.
