4 Claims.
The present invention relates to improvements in saw holding devices.
Animportant object of the invention is the provision of a device which will hold a saw blade firmly and in convenient tooth filing position.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a saw holding device designed to enable resilient engagement of a saw.
A further object of the invention is the provi sion of a. saw holding device constructed so as to enable quick and easy insertion or removal of a saw blade.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of a saw holding device which may be con- ,veniently transported and easily mounted in working position.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a saw holding device of the aforesaid character which may be suitably mounted in a kerf in a stump, log or the like.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of a saw holding device capable of supporting a saw in a vertical or in various inclined positions.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a saw holding device of the above character which is simple, durable and compact in construction.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the description progresses.

Referring to the drawing, wherein for the pur pose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, I designates the body of the holder preferably formed of a length of sheet or cast metal having the form of an inverted V in cross section so as to provide side sections converging to a centrally disposed top ridge. each of the side sections of the body It is provided a bottom row of longitudinally spaced holes II and an upper row of longitudinalry spaced holes 52.
The upper row of holes. l2 in the body are' adapted to' slidably receive therein assembly screws I4 disposed to extend through the side sections and to engage threaded holes l disposed at properly .spaced positions in elongated metallic fastening bars l6 disposed against the inner surface of each side section. The screws It are disposed to support longitudinal holding strips I? on the upper parts of each outer side face of the body, each of the holding strips being provided with holes 18 to receive the screws. These holding strips I! are preferably formed of resilient material, as for instance, spring steel.
Between the holding strips H and the-side sections of the body are interposed elongated relatively narrow spacing strips 29 provided at spaced intervals with transverse slots 2! to permitthe passage of the screws Hi. When these elements are assembled, as shown at Figures 1 and 3, the upper edges of the longitudinally disposed holding strips i1 project above the ridge of the body and assume transversely spaced positions.
During use of the device to hold the saw blade in position for filing the saw teeth, the saw is slidably inserted in the grooves 22 formed on each top side of the body between each side section and the upper marginal portion of the holding strips ll. When a relatively narrow blade, such as the blade of a web or band saw, is to be filed the spacing strip 2% of the groove forming assembly in which the blade is to be fitted is arranged in an elevated position, as shown at Figures 2 and 3, so. that the body of the blade will be snugly fitted in the groove while the teeth will project fully beyond the same, as shown in dotted lines at Figure 1. If a saw having a somewhat wider blade is to be fitted in the device, the spacing strip may be adjusted in correspondence with the increased width of blade by loosening the screws 14 and sliding the spacer transversely downward on the body, increasing the depth of the blade engaging groove to assure firm engagement of the blade in the device.
As will be readily noted from the foregoing the saw blade may be quickly and conveniently inserted into the holding groove and removed without operation of screws or other movable parts.
