This invention appertainsto improvements in watch crystal fitting devices, and has for its principal object to provide an extremely simplified but durable and eflicient means,
whereby the pattern of a desired shape and size of crystal may be readily and accurately traced on a crystal blank directlyfrom the inside edge of the bezel of the watch case to which the completely finished crystal is to be applied.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the class set forth and as hereinbefore characterized, which is in the nature of a base to receive thereon the blank from which a crystal is to be formed, and
which has a clamping means mounted on the same to sustain the watch case firmly in position on the blank while the operator traces the outline of the inner edge of the bezel onto the blank by means of a hand implement or tool.
With the foregoing and other equally important objects in View, the invention resides in the certain new and useful combination,
" construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, set forth in the appended claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Referring to the drawing, wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views thereof, the embodiment of the device, as shown 10, which is preferably formed of a wooden block or the like having a depression 11 formed centrally of its upper face, and of a depth to seat a crystal blank w within the same, and in a manner that the upper face of the blank will lie flush in the plane of the upper face of the base. The depression 11 is preferably formed in a centrally raised ortion 12 at the upper side of the base. Rising from the opposite ends of the base therein by wayof example, comprises a base WATCH-CRYSTAL-FITTING DEVICE 1928. Serial No. 295,066.
I ing frames or supports 16 in the center of in each of which a vertically adjustable clamping member 17 is supported. These clamp ing members 17 are preferably in the form of screw-threaded rods, having winged finger grips 18 at'their upper ends, and swivelled foot pieces 19 at their lower ends.
In the use of the device, after a crystal blank or has been positioned in the depression 11, at the center of the raised portion 12 of the base 10, a watch case b will thereafter be centered on the blank a in opened position, and with the front side of the bezel thereof rest ing directly on the latter. A pair of clamping members or bars 20 will now be laid lengthwise on the base 10 in inwardly inclined and alined relation, and with their outer ends abutted against the inner sides of the end flanges 13, and their inner ends overlying the opposite sides of the raised portion 12 and the horizontal portion of the watch case 6.
These clamping members or bars 20 will be laid in the plane of the longitudinal center of the base 10, so as to underlie the foot pieces 19 of the clamping members or screws 17, and they'are supported in the desired inclined position by being rested against the opposite ends of the centrally raised portion '12 of the base 10. When properly positioned, as indicated, the clamping members or screws 17 will beturned to tightenthe foot pieces 19 thereof downwardly against the upper side of the clamping members or bars 20.
As shown in Figure 2, the inner end ofthe clamp members or bars 20 will preferably have grooves or depressions 21 formed transversely of their lower faces to engage "over the adjacent portions of the watch case I), so that, when the clamp members or screws 17 are tightened downwardly against the clamp members or'bars 20, the watch case b will be 3.539
When the Watch case b is finally clamped in position, the operator Will trace the outline of the inner edges of the bezel onto the underlying crystal blank a by means of afine-ly pointed implement or tool (not shown). When the tracing of the required shape andsize of the proposed crystal on the blank a is completed, the clamp members or screws 17 will be loosened uptfrointhe clamp members or bars 20 and the latter, together with the watch case I), then removediromthe base 10. The blank 41 can now be displaced from the depression 11 by swinging the clamp frames or supports outwardly toward the opposite ends of the base 10. After the removal of the blanka from the depression 11, theouter portions of the same, surrounding the tracing thereon, will be easily broken away by the use of pliers or the like, when the raw edges otthe usable portion or the blank may then be smoothed down in any suitable manner to finally finish the crystal for engagement with the bezel of the watch case I). V I p It is to be noted that the invention contemplates the use of crystal blanks of but one size, sothat all of the same may be snugly fitted 'into the depression 11 arranged for their reception in the upper side of theraised portion 12 of the base 10.
Without further description, it is thought that the features and advantages of the in vention Will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and it will of coursebe understood that changes in the form,- proportion and minor details of construction may bejresort-ed to, Without departing from the spirit of the invention or its scope as claimed.
Having thus fully described the invention,
what is claimed is:
1. A watch crystal fitter comprising a base, a fiat centrally disposed portion rising from said base and having a seat therein torec'eive a sheet of material from which a crystal is to be cut, shoulders formed at the'oppo'site ends of said raised portion, flanges rising from the opposite ends of said base,clamp barsadapted to be laid on the opposite end portions of said base crosswise of said shoulders and with their outer ends abutted against said-flanges and the inner end portions thereof resting onadja-cent edges of a template which is adapted to be placed on the material in said seat, arched'men'lbers disposed transversely of and'above said base and clamp members carried by said arched members and adapted to engage said clamp bars at points thereon in line with saidshoulders.
2. A Watch crystal fitter comprising an elongated base, a flat portion rising centrally tromthe uppersideot said base-and having a'seat therein'to receive-a sheet of material from which a crystal is to be cut, inclined arched membersto admit of the latter being swung outwardly from operative vertical positions at "the opposite sides of said raised portion, and clamp members carriedby said arched members and-adapted to'enga-ge said clamp bars when disposed in their vertical positions.
