This invention relates to a comb having a receptacle adapted to contain liquids, such as hair dye, and provided with means for uniformly delivering said liquid to the individual comb teeth and from these to the users hair.

An object of this invention is to provide a comb comprising a hollow back section open on one side constituting the receptacle and a comb proper, which may be fitted on the open side of the body to close this tightly, and is provided with means for uniformly distributing the liquid along the inner sides of the individual teeth.

A further object of this invention is to provide a comb of the characterspecified, in which the teeth section is obtained by cutting sheet metal to form a number of parallel slits, said sheet metal being folded along the middle line perpendicular to the slits to form a row of hollow teeth.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a comb of the character specified, in which between the two branches of the teeth section an insert of cut sheet metal is interposed which has teeth portions extending within the corresponding comb teeth and a back portion, on the faces whereof there are formed grooves of variable section and increasing in length from the ends towards the center of the comb, in order to suitably distribute the liquid and prevent liquid leakage at the ends.

A further object of the invention is to provide a comb in which the teeth increase in length from the ends towards the middle portion, to obtain a uniform distribution of the liquid to the users hair.

Further objects and features of the invention will be evident from the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the comb, partly in section;

Figure 2 is a cross section;

Figure 3 shows the teeth section blank;

Figures 4 and 5 are an elevation and a plan view, respectively, of the insert;

Figures 6 and '7 show on an enlarged scale a partial cross section and a partial plan view of the insert.

Referring to the drawing, l is a flat elongated box open on one side and shaped to the form of the back section of an ordinary comb.

The edge 2 on the open side of said box is machined and surrounded by a bead 3 secured by welding to the edge of said open side to form a seating adapted to receive the teeth section.

'I'he teeth section is obtained from a piece of sheet metal 4 (Fig. 3)' in which a number of par-` allel slits 5 and a marginal web 6 are formed by cutting and pressing; by bending this blank about the middle axis X-X perpendicular to the slits, a. hollow tooth 1 is obtained from each strip be` tween the slits, of which the adjacent [lateral edges form elongated apertures through which the liquid is delivered to the users hair.

A closing and distance tongue 9 is inserted into the end teeth 8. The two branches of the teeth section are clamped against a deliveryV insert, more fullydescribed hereinafter by screws I0 screwed into end lugs I I on the teeth sections and insert. y

As will' be clearly ,seen from Fig. 1, the teeth length gradually increases from the comb ends towards the center; this arrangement is of special importance since in normal use a greater quantity of hair is accumulated at the central portion of the comb necessitating a more extensive liquid delivery surface.

To obtain a suitable delivery of liquid and prevent dripping at the ends in the vertical or nearly vertical position of the comb which is the normal n position taken by the comb in use, a delivery insert (Figs. 4 and 5) is provided, which is inserted between the teeth section branches. This insert comprises a back portion I2 having the same profile as the back portion of the teeth secn tion and a number of teeth I3 extending in the '7 intermediate section teeth 1. This insert is clamped between the teeth section branches by means of the screws I0 passing through the holes I4.

On both faces of the back portion I2 delivery grooves I5 are formed which are of gradually decreasing length from the center towards the ends (Fig. 4) and ofgradually increasing cross section from the rear edge towards the teeth (Fig. 6). By this arrangement, the liquid contained in the receptacle I nds its Way towards the delivery ports in the teeth 'I more easily towardsthe middle portion than at the ends of the comb. Consequently, when during use the comb is held vertical or almost vertical, the greater resistance encountered by the liquid to reach the end teeth makes up for the greater hydrostatic pressure in the teeth lower in level, whereby supply of liquid to the central portion, where there is normally a greater mass of hair, is maintained substantially constant whatever the position of the comb may be.

This suitable distribution of liquid is improved by the concave form of the rear edge of the teeth which tightly secures the teeth section against the receptacle.

The sleeve I'I prevents spilling of the liquidY l5 during filling of the receptacle I, which is of course eiected at the open forward side after removal of the teeth section.

To facilitate manipulation of the comb, Vthe latter is provided with a handle I9 Xed between the branches of a strap 2E! welded or otherwise xed to an end of the receptacle I; the vhandle isthus above the bead 3 of the receptacle, which prevents soiling of the hands in case of liquid leakage between the web 2 and edge 6 owing to 2.5 improper mounting of the teeth section in the receptacle or other causes.

It will be understood that the form and constructional details may be varied according to practical requirements, without departing from the scope of this invention.

What I claim is:

l. In a reservoir comb the combination with a box-like receptacle having one open side and adapted to contain a liquid, of a teeth section adapted to be clamped in a liquid-tight manner between the walls dening the open side of said receptacle and obtained from sheet metal cut to form a plurality of parallel slots and bent along the middle line perpendicular to the slots to form a row of hollow teeth having narrow lateral slits to deliver the liquid over all the length of each tooth and means in said teeth section and in said receptacle to deliver the liquid substantially in a uniform manner to the individual teeth.

2. In a reservoir comb the combination with a box-like receptacle having one open side and adapted to contain a liquid, of a at seating at the edge of each wall defining said open side of said receptacle, a bead around said seating, a teeth section tightly clamped between said seatings and obtained from sheet metal cut to form a plurality of parallel slots and bent along the middle line perpendicular to the slots to form a row of hollow teeth having narrow lateral slits for delivering the liquid along the whole length of each tooth, marginal Webs perpendicular to said slots cooperating with said seating on the receptacle to afford a tight closure, an insert in said teeth section having at its rear portion grooves for delivering the liquid in a substantially uniform manner` to the individual teeth.

3. Comb, as claimed in claim 2, having a closing ton'gueiclamped in a liquid-tight manner between the two branches of each of the end teeth of the teeth section.

4. .Inma reservoir comb the combination with a box-like? receptacle having one open side and adapted 'to contain a liquid, aflat seating at the edge of each wall dening said open side of the receptacle, a bead around said seating, a teeth section clamped in a liquid-tight manner between said seatings and obtained from sheet metal cut to form a plurality of parallel slots and bent along the middle line perpendicular to the slots to form a row of hollow teeth having narrow lateral .slits for Vthe delivery of the liquid over all the length of the tooth, marginal webs perpendicular to said slots and cooperating with said seating on the receptacle to afford a tight closure, lugs at the -back portion of the teeth section to give to said. back portion a concave prole serving to guide the liquid towards the centralvpart of the receptacle, closing tongues between the branches of the end teeth of the teeth section, a comb-shaped insert xed in said teeth section between said t-ongues and having the same prole as said teeth section, said insert being provided on lboth sides of the back portion withgrooves decreasing in length towards the middle portion of the comb and increasing in cross section from the rear` portion towards the teeth for uniformly delivering the liquid to the individual teeth.
