and curved in such a way as to firmly grip the articles positioned in the device, eliminating the necessity of using an auxiliary spring member.
With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds,
. the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction embodied therein, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a mail and package holder constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof illustrating the device as secured to a supporting surface.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the device.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device comprises a body portion formed of a length of flexible material, the construction of the device being such that it may be stamped with a single operation of a stamping machine.
In the construction of the body portion, an upper arm 5 is provided, which arm is curved at a point intermediate its ends, as at 6, to contact with the supporting wall or surface in gripping a magazine or similar package.
In the formation of the arm 5, a shelf 1 is provided at the base thereof, the shelf including a wide upstanding portion 8 providing a wide supporting surface to prevent a magazine from mov- 1936, Serial No. 91,179
ing laterally as it is held on the shelf. The reference character 9 designates the lower arm of the device, the lower arm being curved outwardly as at In, and cooperating with the bottom of the shelf in receiving and holding newspapers 5 or like articles.
As clearly shown by the drawing, the lower arm 9 is spaced from the shelf, due to the fact that the lower arm forms a continuation of the downwardly extended part II of the device. 1 Openings are formed in the member H, and accommodate the securing screws 12, which are embedded in the supporting surface securing the device in position.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a holding device such as described may be positioned on a supporting surface adjacent to the usual mail receiving box commonly employed for the reception of mail.
It will further be seen that this device will support the articles to the end that it will be unnecessary for the postman to deliver such packages directly to the person receiving the mail.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is: 1. A device of the class described, comprising a pair of curved resilient arms adapted to be secured to a supporting surface, one of said arms cooperating with the supporting surface in gripping an article, the other arm cooperating with the first mentioned arm in gripping an article, and a shelf formed at the base of one of the arms providing a support for the article positioned thereon.
2. A device of the class described, comprising a pair of curved resilient arms, spaced one above the other, said arms being connected by an integral member between the arms, the integral member having openings to receive securing screws whereby the device may be secured to a supporting surface, one of said arms cooperating with the supporting surface in gripping an article, and the opposite arm cooperating with the first mentioned arm in gripping an article.
