y cover and supbreasts in attractively shaped A further object of the invention is the provision of a garment which will support the breasts very comfortably.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of a garment of the aforesaid character is designed to mould the breasts in proximately horizontally protruding .pointed apform.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a garment of the above character,
which is relatively simple and durable in construction.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the description progresses.
In the accompanying drawin of this specification and in which like reference characters are employed tosponding parts throughout the g forming a part designate corresame Figure 1 is a perspective view of the garment in position on a wearer, structural elements of the garment being shown in dotted lines and by means of shaded portions,
Figure 2 is a fragmentary verticai section through the same,
Figure 3 is a front elevational view of the garment,
Figure 4 is an enlarged vertical section on line 4--4 of Figure 3, and
Figure 5 is a fragmentary view showing parts of the bled relation.
front elevational garment in disassem- Reierring to the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, Ill designates a band adapted to encircle the body of a wearer immediately below the breasts and provided at the ends with suitable fastenings for securing the band in body encircling position.
To the front of the band III are connected a pair of complementary body sections I2 preferably formed of relatively thin flexible fabric or body encircling band. A web I3 connects with and extends between the lower portions of these body sections.
The interior margin of each body section I2 is stitched to the peripheral margin of a pocket l5 formed of a plurality of segmental sections converging toward an apex so as to produce a concidal shaped pocket forming structure.
To the upper tapered edge of each pocket is secured one end of a shoulder strap 16 formed of ribbon or other suitable material. The opposed end of the strap I5 is attached to the back encircling portion of the band I, as shown at Figure 3.
Against the inner face of each body section I2 secured a somewhat similarly shaped backing piece l8 having an approximately crescent configuration embodying tapered side wings l9 and 20 and having their outer margins stitched to the side margins of the body sections. As shown at Figure 5, the wings l9 and 20 terminate short of the upper ends of the body sections, the outside wing 20 preferably being somewhat longer to reinforce the garment adjacent-the shoulder. The
bottom straight margin of each backing piece is stitched to the band I0. At the central portion the top edge of each of the backing pieces I8 is shaped to form a protruding lip 2| which, uponassembly of the garment, extends forwardly in cupped position within the lower portion of the pocket, as shown to advantage'at Figure 4. This cupped lip is designed to conform to the curvature of the pocket and assumes a symmetrical reinforcing position therein. Inasmuch as the backing pieces l8 provide the main breast sup porting structure, they may be advantageously formed of heavier stronger fabric.
As shown at Figures 1 and 2, the garment, when fitted on the wearer, assumes a snug yet comfortable position. The pockets cover the breasts and mould the same to the form of a perfect bust configuration. Furthermore, the backing pieces, embodying the cupped lip structure, support the breasts firmly in approximately horizontal protruding positions. In addition to the attractive appearance thus presented, the breasts are held in comfortable aswell as in a ligament and muscle corrective manner.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herein shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes as to the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:- 1. In agarment of the character described, a body encircling band, a pair of independent breast covering pockets secured to the upper edge of said band, a breast lifting piece inside each pocket, said piece being stitched to the upper edge of the band and having a central projecting lip and relatively long and pointed ears on both sides of said lip stitched at their outer edges'to the edges of the pockets, and a strap attached to the apex of each pocket for breast lilting purposes.
2. In a brassiere, a body encircling band, a pair of independent breast covering pockets secured at their lower edges to the upper edge of the band, a breast supporting piece inside the lower portion of each pocket, said piece having a straight lower edge stitched to the upper edge of the band, the said piece having a central projecting lip adapted to provide a breast resting surface, relatively long ears on both sides of the lip stitched outwardly to the outer edges of the pocket so as to curve the ears upwardly and extend the lip outwardly, and straps attached to the meeting points of the ears for lifting the same and taking up the weight of the breasts on the lips.
3. A breast lifting brassiere, comprising a pair of independent breast supporting pieces secured, at the lower edges thereof, to the upper edge of a body encircling band, said pieces having a central breast supporting lip and lateral long ears secured together at their upper ends, ovoid breast covering pockets secured to the band and stitched to the outer edges of the ears, and bands attached to the apex of the pockets for taking up the weight of the breasts through the intermediary of the ears, said pockets being freed of said weight and used solely for breast moulding MELANIE FILION, NEE LECOMPTE.
