ing therefor whereby the force applied to said 1() portions in effecting the engagement and disengagement thereof will be directly aligned with and resisted by the supports for said portions.
Another object of the invention is to provide a door catch of the character described which will provide for the attachment of a door pull or the like directly to one of the fastening means whereby the force applied to such pull for engaging and disengaging the catch will be transmitted directly to said member independent of O the door.
A further object of the invention is to provide a door catch of the character above which will include an improved arrangement of a spring keeper in one of the fastener means. e
The invention possesses other objects and features of advantage, some of which, with the foregoing, will be set forth'in the following description of the preferred form of the invention which is illustrated in the drawing accompanying and forming part of the specification. It is to be understood, however, that variations in the ,showing made by the said drawing and description may be adopted within the scope of the invention as set forth in the claim.

Figure 1 is a sectional view of a catch constructed in accordance with my invention and shown operatively mounted on a door and casing therefor. e

Figure 4 is a sectional View similar to Figure 3 but showing a modified arrangement of the spring keeper.
Figure 5 is a sectional view similar to Figure 1 but showing a modified arrangement of the elements.
With reference to the drawing, the door catch r6 here shown comprises a pair of fastener members l and 8 which in accordance with the pres- {ent invention are mounted directly on a pair of 5 opposed abutting sides 9 and Il of the door and 'usual casing therefor.
Thus, on closing the door the members are brought into face to face contact with each other rather than moved one by the other as is commonly the case in the usual door latch installation where one of the latch members is mounted on a side of the casing opposite the end of the door and the other latch member is carried on the end of the door and slides against the first member into a locked engagement therebehind. As will be understood, the fastener members may be mounted on substantially any pair of abutting surfaces on the door and casing, but usually it is preferable that these members be installed adjacent the free swinging end of the door. Where the. catch is to be used in connection with a sliding drawer or the like where no pivot or lever action is present, the same may be installed between substantially any pair of opposed surfaces on the drawer and support therefor.
As here shown, the fastener meansinclude cylindrical shaped body portions I2 and I 3 which are arranged to be mounted in suitable recessed openings I4 and I6 provided in the opposed surfaces ll and 9. The members are preferably securely held in the recessed openings against forceful withdrawal therefrom by means of a set of longitudinally spaced peripheral burs l1 and I8 and are provided adjacent their outer ends with stop flanges I9 and 2| which are arranged to lie substantially flush with the surfaces 9 and Il.
Formed integrally with the member 8 and extending longitudinally from the outer end thereof is a knobbed projection 22 which is arranged for entry into a recess 23 in the member 1 and into operative engagement with a spring keeper 24 carried in said recess. As here shown, the keeper is mounted against longitudinal displacement in the recess by means of an annular retainer groove 26 formed in the side. wall of the grecess, and, as may be best seen from Figure 3, the keeper may be inserted into or removed from the groove through a side opening 2l in the member l. The keeper is of generally annular shape and is arranged on initial engagement with the projection 22 to be resiliently spread by the latter and to spring into a reduced portion 28 formed in the projection to the rear of the forward end thereof.
As will thus be understood, the fastener members are arranged to be moved into and from engagement by a straight longitudinal or end to end movement such as provided for by their mounting between a pair of opposed abutting surfaces 9 and Il. In order that on drawing apart of the fastener members no unnecessary strain will need be placed on the door, I prefer to connect a door pull 29 directly with the rear of the fastener member 8 carried by the door so that the force applied to the pull 29 will be transmitted directly to the member S rather than to an adjacent portion of the door. Means of connection between the pull and the fastener member here include a stem `3l secured to the knob 29 and extending through the side 32 `of the door opposite the side 9 and into threaded engagement in a bore 33 formed in the rear side 34 of the member 8. In order that the fastener members i and 8 may be interchangeably mounted on either the door or the casing, the member 1 is provided with a threaded bore 36 similar to bore 33 so as to enable the use of this member, as well as the member 8, in the door and its connection with the stern 3| as aforesaid.
In Figure 4 there is illustrated a slightly modied form of the spring keeper. As here shown, the fastener member 'l' is formed on one side thereof with a pair of spaced transverse openings 4I and 42 which support the sides of the U shaped spring member 24', while the free ends 43 and 44 of the spring are engaged in an opposed side opening 46 in the member 1 and held therein against longitudinal displacement. Preferably the sides of the spring are interconnected at their other ends by a side 41 which is inset into a recess 48 formed in the periphery of the member 'l' between the openings 4| and 42 and is preferably soldered or peened or otherwise secured therein.
In Figure 5, I have shown a slight rearrangement of the elements both as to structure and positioning. As here shown, the fastener member 'l' is mounted in the door rather than in the casing, as in the previous embodiment, and is arranged to be retained in the door opening l5 by means of threads 5l provided about the periphery of the body portion thereof. In order to facilitate the mounting of this member, the stop flange 2l' may be formed of polygonal shape so as to afford gripping thereof in a wrench or the like for turning. Also in the arrangement here shown, the door pull 29 and the stem 3l' are secured to the door at a point removed from the fastener members.
