UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
FRIEDRICH B. FUCHS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN FlRE-ESCAPES.
Speoificationforming part of Letters Patent No. 208,470, dated October 1, 1878; application filed February 14, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH B. Focus, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fire-Escapes; and I hereby declare that the following is an exact and true description of my invention, which will enable others to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The object of my invention is to provide for a fire-escape which is cheaply constructed, readily transported and applied, and by aid of which a person, a package, or goods may be dispatched from a burning building down into the street without damage or injury.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of my improved fire-escape. Fig. 2 is a sectional view, and Fig. 3 is a plan sectional view of the same.
A is a flexible tube, made of canvas or other suitable material. The upper and lower ends of this tube are held open by aid of the metallic rings a and b. To the ring I) is fastened a clamp, D, by aid of which the tube is fast ened to a window-casing. To each side of the lower ring, a, are fastened the handles 0 e, and between these are fastened to the tube the cushion or mattress F. P
g g are rings, the office of which is to hold the tube in a circular form, and they are, by the netting h h, fastened to said tube.
k k are cords fastened to the lower ring, a, and placed in the loops m m, fastened to the tube. The office of these cords is to draw the tube up when the same is required to be folded for transportation.
Having thus described my invention, I desire to claim- The tube A, provided with rings a and b, the latter having clamp D, and the former handles 0 and cushion F, the rings g g, having netting h h and cords is k, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
FRIEDRICH B. FUCHS.
