Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK S. OLARKSON, OF BALTIMORE COUNTY, ASSIGNOR TO RICHARD OROMWELL AND FRANK B. SLOAN, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN BEDSTEAD-FASTENINGS.
Specification formingpart of Letters Patent No. 207,949, dated September 10,1878; application filed February 4, 1878.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK S. CLARKSON, of the county of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in Bedstead-Fastenings, of which the following is a specification and I do hereby declare that in the same is contained a full, clear, and exact description of my said invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates specially to certain improvements in the socket-iron forming one of the members of acomplete bed-fastening, and it consists in a novel construction of the said socket-iron, as will hereinafter fully appear.
In the description of the improved socketiron which follows, reference is made to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof, and in which Figure 1 is a top view, Fig. 2 a longitudinal section, and Fig. 3 an under-side view, of the improved socket'iron.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts in all the figures.
A is the socket-iron, which, like other devices of its class, is inserted in a slot or cavity in the bed-post. The sides a a of the device are parallel, and practically at a right angle to the face I) of the same. One end, 0, of the socket-iron is rounded, and at a right angle to the face I), as is the case with the sides a. The
other end, d, of the iron is 'also rounded, but is inclined outwardly from the face b, as shown.
This construction of. the socket-iron enables the device to be inserted in a slot or cavity corresponding very nearly to it in size and shape; and, further, it admits of the permanent securing of the iron Within the slot or cavity by means of a single screw inserted in a countersunk hole near to the end 0.
The device is provided with the usual projections, c, with which the outer end of the hook attached to and projecting from the side rail of the bedstead engages.
The hook above referred to, as it forms no part of the present invention, is not herein shown or described.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The socket-iron A, constructed as shown A and described, and having plain parallel sides a, and the rounded end 0 at a right angle to the faces, and the rounded end d at an obtuse angle to the face I), as specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this 5th day of December,
in the year of our Lord 187 7.
FRANK S. OLARKSON.

J. O. RIELLY, JOHN E. DUFFY.
