Patented Mar. 30, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in plows and more particularly to a removable tip for plows.
The principal object of the present invention is 5 to provide a removable tip for plows so that when the tip becomes worn, it can be thrown away and a new tip applied at a cost substantially below the expense now incurred in sharpening plows.
Other important objects and advantages of the 10 invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 represents a side elevational view of the improved plow.
15 Figure 2 represents a fragmentary top plan view of the nose portion of the plow, with the tip removed.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view through the nose portion of the plow with 20 the tip applied.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the numeral 5 represents the plow of which numeral 6 denotes the nose portion. This nose portion 6 25 is cut down to provide the reduced tapered extension 1 over which the novel tip structure 8 is disposed. This tip is in the nature of a shoe, the same being hollow and tapered and of some high grade wear resisting metal. The same includes a bottom a, the thickened extremity b, the side wall and the top wall e. The top wall e has an opening therein for receiving the machine screw 9 which is driven into the reduced portion 1 of the plow nose. The plow nose is reduced just enough to make the outside of this shoe 8 entirely flush with the adjoining surfaces of the plow nose 6.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the 10 invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from, the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention what is claimed as new is:-
In a plow structure, a nose portion cut away to provide a reduced extension having right angular shoulders at its inner end, a shoe of wear-resisting material disposed on the said extension so as to abut the shoulders and having its outer surface flush with the adjoining surfaces of the nose portion, said shoe being of tapered construction and including a bottom, sides and top walls, and a thickened forward end portion.
