newsman.
Specification of Lette1-s Patent.
Patented nib. 18, 1908;
Application filed June 22- 1967 Serizl 30. 380.285.
To 11! 'UIIUIII i 15 may (toner-r":
Be it hiumll that l. (insures W. Mc- WANi-t, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lynehburg. in the'countfv of Campbell and State of Virginia. have invented a '3' new and useful llowshare. ol' \vhieh the following is a speeiliration.
This in (union relates to plowshares ol' the i eharaeter covered by claims in my ropending application,Serial .\'o. 342,413, and the objt-rt of the present case is to improve the shares of hillside phnvs, so that, butlii cutting edges will be. self-shar ening, and; will hold the share to its work, preventing any tendency of its working np\\'-ar1ll \"t.o: ward the surface. in the dran'ings:l igure l is a perspeetive view .of one embodiment of the inven tiou. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view thereof. 1 Figs. 2), 4 and 5 are respectively ('ross seetional views on the line I-3, 44, and 5-4) ol- Fig. Fig. (3 is a bottom plan view of another einhmliment of the invention. Figs. 7, S and J are respectively sectional views on the lincs 77, i\-S and !)--9 of Fig. (3.
.Similar reference numerals designate eorcspomling parts in all the ligurcs of the. drawings.
in the emlunliment. diselosed in Figs. ]5 inclusive, the plows-hare, designated as a whole. b v the reference numeral 10, has; opposite angularly disposed blades ll terminating in a common nose 1;. The under i side of the nose at the juiietui'e of the blades is provided with .1 lmgitudihal ridge l3, and Z the blades l] on opposite sides of this ridge are separately :lll'l transversely eoneaved on f dill'erentcurves, as shonn at H. This con 5 caved formation is shown more partieularlv inl igs. I; and 4. The rear portions of the under sides of the blades 1] are, however, flat. In the embodiment. zlise-losed in Figs. 74) inclusive, whieh perhaps the preierred form of eonstruetion. the share is designated as a whole b v the rel'erenre numeral l5. and is provided with augularlv disposed blades- 16 terminating in a eommon nose l7. in this" eonstruetion, the blades throughout" their lengths are transversely eoneaved. as shown at 15. and consequently as in the first, deseribed embodiment, the front pur-z Lions of said blades on opposite sides 01 the Z l and longitudinal ridge 19 are also concaved. As
a result, and as shown in Fig. 9, the ridge 19 is longitudinally concaved, while the up er or outer face of the nose is preferably slightly eonvexed. The result is that the.
rotting edges of the blades are downwardly inclined, and with this peculiar formation,
experience has demonstrated thatthe point and blades will properly out through the Soil without the tendency of the share to rise to the surface, no matter how badly the cutting edges may wear. l urthermore; because of the eoneaved construction, the said cutting edges will always remain sharp.
' From the foregoing, it is thought; that the eonstruction, operation, and many advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, without further description, and itwill be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion, and minor details of construction, may he resorted to-without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention,
'\\'i!:li. l elaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
Q]. A plowshare including opposite blades termiimting in a common nose, the under sidesof the blades at their juncture with the nose being separately eoncaved on diil'ereutcurves.
2. A plowsliare inrluding opposite blades terminating. in a common nose, said nose having a longitudinal ridge on its under side at the juncture of the blades and said blades being eoncaved on opposite sides of the ridge.
3. A plowshare including angularlv di sposed blades tia mimiting in a common nose; the muh r sides of the blades being separately transversely cont-rived on diil'erent curves.
4. A plmvshare including opposite blades having opposite cutting edges terminating in a common nose. the under sides of the blades being separately and transversel eoneaved 100 throughout their lengths on dill'erent curves. plowshare including opposite blades terminating in a common nose, said nose having a longitudinal ridge on its under side at. the juncture of the blades, said blades 105 being mncaved ihrmighuut their lengths and In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in'the presence of two witnesses.
CHAR LES W. MCWANE.
on opposite sides of the ridge and said ridge being longitudinally concaved.
6. A pl'owshare including opposite blades terminating in a common nose, said nose having a. longitudinal ridge on its under side \Vitnesses:
and said blades being concaved throughout a L. \T. \VALSH,
their lengths on opposite sides of the ridge. F. B. DAVIS.
