Description

Feb. 16, 1937. K. WOLFE 2,071,150
COMB
Filed' April 16, 1956 I nven lor Patented Feb. 16, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE COMB Lester K. Wolfe, Fort Wayne, Ind.
Application April 16, 1936, Serial No. 74,744 2 Claims. (01. 132-19) The present invention relates to the new and useful improvements in hair combs and has for itsprimary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an article of this character embodying a novel construction for removing dandruff, dead skin, etc. from the scalp.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a comb of the aforementioned character which embodies novel means for removing the dandrufi, dead skin, etc. from the teeth of the comb. I
Other objects of the invention are to provide a comb of the character described which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efiicient and reliable in use, compact, light in weight and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects andadvantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of comb constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is a view in vertical section through the invention, taken substantially on the line of 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view, taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a back I of any suitable material. Projecting at right angles from the back I are integral teeth 2. As illustrated to advantage in Figure 2 of the drawing, the teeth are hollow, the bores thereof extending through the back I. The free ends of the teeth 2 are substantially rounded, as at 3, or otherwise formed to prevent injury to the scalp and the hair.
Paralleling the back I is a bar 4 which also may be made of suitable material, such as aluminum or hard rubber. Projecting at right angles from the bar 4 are ejecting fingers 5 which are slidably engaged in the hollow teeth 2. Coil springs 6 yielding urge the bar 4 away from the back I for retracting the cleaning fingers 5, the ends I of said springs 6 being .move dandruff, dead skin, etc. from the scalp which accumulate in said hollow teeth 2. When it is desired to clean or empty the hollow teeth 2, it is only necessary to actuate the bar 4 against the tension of the springs 6 and 8, thus projecting the fingers 5 to the free ends 3 of the teeth 2 for ejecting the dandruff, dead skin, etc. therefrom. Of course, when the bar 4 is released the fingers 5 are retracted by the springs 6 and 8.
It is believed, that the many advantages of a comb constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
1. A comb of the class described comprising a back, hollow teeth projecting from said back for the reception of dandruff and other matter, a bar paralleling the back, and fingers projecting from said bar and slidably engaged in the hollow teeth for removing the dandruff, etc.
therefrom.
2. A comb comprising a back, teeth projecting from said back, said teeth being hollow for the reception of dandruif and including substantially rounded free ends, a bar paralleling the back, fingers projecting from said bar and slidably engaged in the hollow teeth for ejecting the dandruff therefrom, and springs mounted between the back and the bar for retracting the fingers in the teeth.
