T 0 all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, BENJAMIN J. GREELEY, of Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Cutting and Making Pantaloons; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

The nature of my invention consists in cutting and making the pants with an opening down the back, with a lapel, and closed about the person by elastic straps so as to prevent rending the same when strained by the sitting or stooped position of the wearer. I also cut the pantaloons so as to bring the point of suspension over each hip for the benefit of those who use the new and improved brace suspenders that attaches to the pants only at two points.

To enable others skilled in the art of cutting and manufacture of pantaloons, I will proceed to describe the difference of construction and operation.

I cut the pants in the usual way with the exception of the waistbands, and from a point below the terminus of the spine up the back where I leave a lapel on one or both sides, see Figs. 122 .2. Instead of closing (or sewing) this part of pants (the backs) in the usual way I fasten them about the person by the use of elastic straps. One

set on the outside, see A, Fig. 1, which are attached to the lapel and at a Fig. 2. 011 the outside, I also have another set that fasten on the other lapel see A Fig. 2, and are fastened on the inside of the pants see a Fig. 1. This arrangement keeps the pants snug to the person when standing, and by the elasticity of the straps (or fastenings) are rendered easy and pleasant to the wearer in any position, without danger of bursting or any way rending the same.

The other part of my improvement is for the improved suspender, which has only two points of attachment. I cut the pants atthe point of suspension C, Figs. 12 2 or 3 inches higher than the front or back see Fig. 1c. The point of suspension C should be a little back from the center B Fig. 1,which represents the suspender.

hat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The making up the back part-of pants, with a lapel and elastic straps A instead of seaming them as they have invariably been made.

2. Also the cutting of the top parts (or waistband) of pants so as to be perfectly and pleasantly suspended at only two pointsas c.
