IMPROVEMENT IN PRlNTlNG-PRESSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 206,972., dated August 13, 1 78; application filed J unc l, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM F. Rossnn and J ULIUs L. BRIGGS, of Marshfield, in the county of \Vebster and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Printing-Press Attachment, of which the following is a specification:
The object of our invention is to provide a cheap and simple attachment to hand printingpresses for guiding, catching, and holding the frisket when the latter is being raised from the tympan for adjusting the paper, or for other purposes.
The invention consists in a guide-rod adj ustable in position upon the frame of a printingpress, and provided with a hook for holding up the frisket; and in the combination with the frame of aprinting-press, and with arod having a hook upon its end for holding up the frisket, of a guide-clamp attachable to the frame, and having a set-screw for holding the said rod in position, as will be hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of our printingpress attachment. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of a modification of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is a rod, having a hook, a, formed upon one end, its other end being inserted in a hole through the frame B of the hand-press, as in Fig. 2, or through the clamp C, so that the rod A may be slid back and forth, as required, to adjust the distance between the frame B and the hook at, and is secured in the adjusted position by a set screw, b.
The clamp C is formed of a piece of metal bent at its center, where the set-screw is inserted, and having its two ends bent against each other to form the jaws c, for grasping the frame B, the clamp being secured in position by closing the jaws 0 upon the frame B by tightening the nut (1 upon the bolt D, which bolt goes through the two jaws of the clamp, and rests upon the upper surface of the frame B. The guide-hole for the rod A, through the opposite sides of the clam p G, is at right angles to the set-screw I).
When the tympan E is raised from the type F, and the frisket G thrown back from the tympan, the guide-rod A prevents the frisket from passing above the hook a, and the hook holds the frisket in position when the said frisket is lifted into the said hook.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The guide-rod A, adjustable in position upon the frame of a printing-press, and provided with the hook a, for holding up the frisket, substantially as specified,
2. The combination, with the frame B of a I printing-press, and with the rod A, provided with the hook to, for holding up the frisket, of the clamp G, attachable to the frame B, and having the set-screw b, for holding the rod A in position, substantially as specified.
