UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PELEG ROSE AND GEORGE C. ROSE, OF NORWICH, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES FOR SEPARATING THE FIBERS 0F WOOD FOR PAPER-PULP.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 206,971, ated August 13,1878 application filed July 27, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, PELEG ROSE and GEORGE C. ItosE, of Norwich, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvement-s in Machines for Separatin g the Fibers of \Vood; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the inventi0n,which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appcrtains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a View, in perspective, of a machine embodying the improvements of our in- Fig. 2 is a plan View. Fig. 3 is a side elevation, and Fig. 4 is a modification.
This invention relates to machines for separating the fibers of wood in the manufacture of paper-pulp; and it consists in the improvements in the construction of the machine, as hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanyin g drawings similar letters of reference indicate corrcspondin g parts in the several figures.
Upon the rectangular base A is mounted the disk B, provided with shaft 0, having beltpulley D. The faces of the disk B are provided with the scrapers E.
The rims F of the disk may be beveled, as in Fig. 4, and the scrapers E placed at any desired angle without departing from the spirit of our intention.
Inclined chutes Gr are fixed to the base A, their inner ends coming almost in contact with the edges of the scrapers E.
The wood to be reduced to fiber is fed to the scraper down the chutes C; but any suitable means for holding the wood in contact with the scrapers may be substituted for the chutes.
*e do not claim a cutter or a series of the same, said cutters being radically different in their working and results from the scraper or scrapers shown and described in our invention.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the lnited States,
In a machine for separating the fibers of wood, the rotary disk 13, provided on its face or faces with the scrapers E, in connection with suitable means for holding the wood in contact therewith, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we have hereto aftixed our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
PELEG ROSE. GEORGE C. ROSE. Witnesses:
LUcIUs BROWN, WM. BAGGER.
