Description
(NeModeL) T. H, SCOTT, A. GpDe PONTBE, & H. E. WY-MAN. Machine for Cutting Wood Fiber for Paper Pulp.
No. 234,893. Patented Nov. 30, 1880;.-
WITNESSES: INVENTOR UNITED STATES ATENT FFICE.
THOMAS H. SCOTT, ALBERT G. DE PONTEE, AND HENRY E. WYMAN, OF
' CROW'N POINT CENTRE, NEW YORK.
MACHlNE FOR CUTTING WOOD FIBER FOR PAPER-PULP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 234,893, dated November 30, 1880.
Application filed May 7, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, THOMAS HEWSON Soo'r'r, HENRY EDWARD WYMAN, and AL- BERT GUNISON DE PONTEE, of Crown Point Centre, in the county of Essex and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Machines for Cutting Wood Fiber for Paper-Pulp, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention consists in a novel construction of a knife, and the combination thereof with a revolving head, for cutting wood fiber to be used in making paper-pulp.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side "iew of a machine provided with our improvement. Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view of the cutter-head, and Fig. 3 is an end iew of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre- 2o sponding parts.
A represents the frame of the machine, which may be of any suitable construction.
In the frame A is journaled a shaft, B, provided with apulley, b, for drivingit by a band, and carrying at one end a cutter-head. This cutter-head is composed of radial leaves C, adapted to receive the cutting-knives, which are secured to them by means of bolts D, passing through holes in the leaves and in the 0 knives and secured by nuts. The bolts D also pass through holes in plates E, between which and the leaves C the knives are secured.
(No model.)
Each knife is composed of a straight blade. G, running parallel with the length of the leaf C, and having anumber of spur-blades or cut- 5 ters, arranged transversely thereto, said spur-blades having their points extending beyond the straight edge of the blade G. The blade is attached to the leaf by the bolts and plate, as before described.
As the cutter-head revolves in contact with the wood the spur-cutters 9 cut transversely of the grain, and the intermediate portions of the straight blade Gr remove the portions of the fiber between the kerfs made by the spur- 5 cutters.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The cutter consisting of the straight blade 6, provided with the spur-cutters g, in combination with the cutter-head C, as herein shown and described.
2. The combination, with the cutter-blade G and leaf C of the cutter-head, of the bolts D and fastening-plate E, as herein shown and described.
THOMAS HEWSON SCOTT. HENRY EDWARD WYMAN. ALBERT GUNISON DE PONTEE.
