Description

B. P. KINGAID. Pliers for Wiring Bottles.
No. 206,951. Patented Aug. 13, 1878.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BARRON P. KINC'AID, OF BRIDGETON, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLIERS FOR WIRING BOTTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 206,951, dated August 13, 1878; application filed June 19, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BARRON P. KINCAID, of Bridgeton, in the county of Cumberland and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pliers for Securing Wire on Bottles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective View, and Fig. 2 is a similar View, illustrating the operation of my invention.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
This invention relates to an improved device for twisting and securing wire upon botties, &e., the construction and operation of which I shall now proceed more fully to describe with reference to the drawings, in which- A represents an ordinary pair of nippers or pliers, the blades of which, B B, are perforated near the ends, as shown at c c. The insides of the blades, from the perforations c c and to their ends, are grooved, as shown at b b,- and grooves a a are formed upon the outside of the blades, extending from the perforations in a downward direction.
For the purpose of securing corks or stoppers, wire is frequently adjusted upon the necks'of bottles and twisted with a view to securing it. This, with such devices as are now commonly used, is a slow and tedious process, the ends of the wire being frequently broken oft, thus causing waste of material and loss of time.
WVith my improved implement it is only necessary to pass the ends of the wire, in the manner shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, from the inside through the perforations c 0, when, by grasping it between the blades and twistin g, the ends will slide out through the grooves b I), being at the same time securely twisted, and with no danger of breaking off.
The grooves a a are simply for the purpose of receiving the ends of the wire without making it necessary to bend them out to any considerable extent.
Having thus described m y invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The improved pliers herein described, having blades B B, provided with perforations c c and grooves 11 b a a, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
In testimony that 1 claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BARRON POTTER KINGAID.
