UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICII.
BYRON S. HITE, OF FULTON, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN HEAT-FENDERS FOR COOKlNG-STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 206,947, dated August 13, 1878 application filed June 1, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BYRON S. HITE, of Fulton, in the county of (Jallaway and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Heat Fender for Cooking-Stoves, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a vertical section taken on line as a: in Fig. 3. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the fender folded. and ready to store away. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on line 3 y in Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of the invention is to prevent the escape of heat to the room in which the stove is placed, and to confine the heat for the purpose of drying fruit and other articles.
In the drawing, A is an ordinary cookingstove, whose pipe I) discharges into the chimney c. The chimney is provided with a separate passage for the escape of warm air, which communicates through the opening at with the upper portion of the room in which the stove is placed.
In the present case the stove is placed in the corner of the room, and grooved strips 0 are secured to the walls of the room to receive the partitions B B, which meet at a right angle and are connected by hinges f.
The partition B, which stands in front of the stove, has a door-opening, g, which is not entirely closed by the door h, an opening be ing left under the door for the entrance of air and for convenience in adjusting the fire. The partition B has a door, i, which opens directly opposite the side of the stove, and has also a door, j, near the ceiling, through which to introduce articles to be dried, which are placed on shelves in the upper portion of the space inclosed by the partitions B B.
The upper end of each partition is provided with a sliding piece, 7r, which is moved upward against the ceiling when the fender is in use.
When it is desired to place anything upon or remove it from the stove, or to attend to the cooking, the doors h i are opened. At other times the doors remain closed. The air enters the inclosed space through the opening below the door h, and the heated air and steam escape through the opening d.
When the stove is not in the corner of the room another section of partition will be required.
When the fender is not in use it is folded together and may be stored.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent- The combination of the partitions B B, hinged together and provided with doors, the grooved strips 0, and the sliding pieces It, as and for the purpose specified.
BYRON S. HITE.
