Description
J. P. LINDSAY. Garment-Supporters'.
No. 206,803. Patented Aug. 6, 181s..
ivm. PWTO-LIHOGRAPHER, WASHINGOH. ILC.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIGE.
JOHN P. LINDSAY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN GARMENT-SUPPORTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 206,803, dated August 6, 1878; application tiled June 24, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
1 part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the loop, with slots for aixing it to the webbing, and for receiving and holding the stud or button. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the stud and the slotted base by which it is aflixed to the webbing. Fig. 3 represents the button-clasp in use as astocking-supporter, and Fig. 4 shows the button-clasp afiixed tothe webbing.
rlhis invention relates to button-clasps for supporting hose and other wearing apparel; and it consists in the improvements in the construction of the same, hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the cla-im.
In the accompanying drawing, similar letters of reference indicate correspondn g parts in the several igures.
The loop A is struck up from sheet metal, tl ms avoiding the heretofore necessary process of soldering it at some point, and has the slot B for securing it to the webbing, and the enlarged opening C for receiving the fabric and stud, and the elongated slot D for holding the fabric and stud when they have been forced into it, thus claspin g and supporting the garment to which the button-clasp has been applied.
E is the base of the stud F, having slots G and H for receiving the webbing I, for the purpose of aflixin g the button or stud F. The stud F may be either of solid material or hollow, as may be desired.
The advantages of this invention are not only its cheapness, simplicity, durability, usefulness, neatness, &c., but its construction is such that the metallic parts do uotneccssarily come in contact with the person of the wearer, thus avoiding all liability ot' irritation of the person of the wearer, and consequently all eruptions of the skin that would occur from such contact.
Having thus described my invention, whati claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Iatent of the United States is- 1. 'lhe button loop or stud consisting ot a. base struck up from solid metal, and provided with the slots for aftixing it to the webbing, and a solid or hollow stud, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In an improved garment-sapporter, the combination of the button loop or stud, eonsisting of a base struck up from solid metal, and provided with the slots for afxing it to the webbing, and a solid or hollow stud, with a loop for receiving the stud, all arranged and operating substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim thc foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence ot' two witnesses.
JOIIN I. LINDSAY.
