Description

, Jan. 5, 1937. N. H. IEMER 3 4 PAPER CLIP Filed Nov. 18, 1935 Inventor v /V. H. Saleem Patented Jan. 5, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PAPER CLIP Nolan H. Siemer, Bushton, Kans.
Application November 18, 1935, Serial No. 50,420
2 Claims. (01. 24-261) This invention relates to paper clips and in accordance with the present invention the paper clip is so provided that it may be slipped on to the paper or papers to be secured together thereby 5 from any side.
The invention together with its objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein the single view is substantially a plan of the improved clip.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals it will be seen that the clip, in the preferred embodiment thereof is formed from a single length of spring wire or other suitable and similar material one end portion of which is shaped to provide a substantially triangular jaw 5 and the other end portion of which is bent so as to provide a substantially circular cooperating jaw 6.
As clearly shown in the drawing, and forming a salient feature of the present invention is the having of the terminal 1 of that end portion of the wire forming the jaw 5 terminating in overlapping relation with, and extending parallel to,
that side 5a of the triangular jaw 5 which merges directly into that end portion of the wire which forms the circular or substantially circular jaw 6.
By reason of the feature above detailed it will be seen that the clip may be so slipped onto a Paper or the like that the latter will be clamped between the sides 51), 5c and the wire terminal I on the one hand and the major portion of the ring like jaw 6 on the other hand thus insuring a positive grip of the clip on the paper.
5 Also by reason of this specific structure it will be apparent that the clip from any side thereof may be applied to the paper or papers or the like that is to be secured together by the clip from any side of the clip, and then when the clip, applied to the papers from any side of the clip, is in final gripping position at least two angularly related 5 sides of the jaw 5 will be in positive bearing contact with one side of the paper to cooperate with the jaw B for positively securing the clip in position.
It is thought that a clear understanding of the 10 construction and advantages of a clip of this character will be had from the foregoing by those skilled in the art, and having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A paper clip constructed of a single length of 15 wire and consisting of a substantially circular jaw and a substantially triangular jaw, said triangular jaw having one side consisting of two mutually separated parts the terminal portions of which are arranged in overlapping substantially paral- 2o lel relation, each of the points of the triangular jaw extending outwardly of the circular jaw to provide a multiplicity of clamping elements.
2. A paper clip formed from a single length of wire one end of which is bent to provide a sub-' 5 stantially circular jaw complete in itself and the other end of which is formed to provide a substantially triangular jaw complete in itself whereby, regardless from which side edge the clip is applied to the paper, at least two angularly related '30 sides or portions of the triangular jaw will be in bearing engagement with one side of the paper or the like, each of the points of the triangular jaw extending outwardly of the circular jaw to provide a multiplicity of clamping elements.
