Description

H..REISS. Work-Support for Metal-Turning Lathes.
No. 206,485. Patented July 3 0, I878.
WITNESSES: ZNVEJV'TOR I M070 B F ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
HANS REISS, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN WORK-SUPPORTS FOR METAL-TURNING LATHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 206,485, dated July 30, 1878; application filed July 1, 1878.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HANS REIss, of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Open Adjustable Bushing for Screw and Pin Machines, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a side view of my improved bushing, shown as applied to the sliding bed of the machine. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved bushing for screw and pin machines, for holding the stock against the pressure of the tool, which shall be so constructed as to hold stock of different sizes, and which shall be simple in construction and convenient and efiective in use.
The invention consists in the bushing having slots formed in it to receive the clampingscrews, and provided with a hook made with a tapering cavity, in combination with the tool-holder of a screw or pin machine, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the slide, and B the sliding bed, of the machine. 0 is the tool-holder, which is formed upon or attached to the sliding bed B, and to which the tool D is secured by the clamp E and hand-screw F. G represents the stock, which is held and driven in the usual way. H is the bushing, which is secured to the side of the tool-holder O by the hand-screws I. The hand-screws I pass through short slots in the bushing H, so that the said bushing may be adjusted as required.
Upon the forward end'of the bushing H is formed a hook, h, the cavity of which is made tapering, so that it may fit upon and hold stocks of different sizes.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The bushing H, having vertical slots, and a hook, h, provided with a tapering cavity, in combination with the tool-holder G and the mandrel of a screw or pin machine, as and for the purpose set forth.
HANS REISS.
