.'z claims.` (ci. z-ss) The invention relates to outer garments and more particularly to'a womans coat of the type including a collar, cape or other element intended for comfort or ornamentation and adapted for removal or replacement to vary appearance of the garment or adapt the same to current conditions of weather or temperature.l

'Ihere are many occasions when one style of garment, for example a dress coat, is suitable and appropriate, and other occasions when a different style of garment, for example a sports coat would be more suitable. Usually the material and cut of the body of a garment appropriate for various occasions is the same, and the collar or similar ornamentation, is the distinguishing feature.

It is, therefore, the principal object of the present invention to provide a garment with a shoulder or neck-piece or similar ornamentation, that is readily removed or'applied so that the garment may be converted from one style or appearance to another.

Other important objects of the invention are to provide a construction of this character wherein the securing means is concealed on the back and shoulder portions of the garment; and to provide an ornamentation which, when detached, may be worn alone as a neck-piece or may be attached to another garment.

In accomplishing these and other objects of the present invention, I have provided improved details of construction, the preferred form of which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the shoulder portions of my improved garment, the ornamental shoulder or neck-piece being shown in partly removed condition for illustrating the fastening means therefor.

Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the upper rear portion of the garment and shoulder piece in disassembled relation, part of the yoke and neck portions of the garment being broken away to better illustrate the position of thel fastening device which unites the collar with the garment.

Referring more in detail to the drawings:

I designates a garment which I have shown for the purpose of illustration a ladys coat having the usual skirt portion 2, body portion 3, sleeves I, lapels 6, coat fastening devices such as buttons 8, and a primary collar 1. The primary co1- lar 1 forms an integral part of the upper body portion of the garment and terminates at either side thereof in the lapels 5.

Encircling the rear neck portion of the collar and incorporated into the back of the garment is a yoke 8 having its ends 8 and I0 terminating under the lapels 5, as at II. The collar may be stitched throughout, as shown at I2, to provide a suitable ornamentation therefor as well as giving it sumcient body to keep its desired shape when turned back over the yoke 8.

The garment as thus far described is of a distinct style in the natre of an informal sports coat, and can be worn on any suitable occasion. However, for wear in colder weather, or at functions requiring a more formal or different style of attire, I provide the garment with a supplementary or ornamental shoulder or neck-piece I3 that can be readily attached or removed by the wearer.

The yoke 8 is, therefore, preferably formed in two concentric sections I4 and I5 having their adjacent edges I6 and I1 secured together in Aoverlapping relation, the edge I6 of the section I4 being turned under and sewed to the edge II of the section I6, as at I8, to provide a loose flap I9 projecting over the section I5 in the direction of the collar 1.

Incorporated in the seam between the edges of the sections I4 and I5, and underlying the flap I9, is one section 20 of a fastening device such as a slide fastener 2l. The slide fastener section includes a tape 22 that is secured by means of the stitching I8. The clip or coupling portion 23 of the slide fastener section is substantially concealed under the flap I9. The fastening device is coextensive with the pleat, but terminates short thereof as shown at 24 in Fig. 3, for a purpose later described.

`The ornamental piece I3 may be composed of animal fur 25, or other material, suitable to the occasion on which the coat is to be Worn, and which is sewed or otherwise suitably secured to a cloth foundation portion 26, preferably corresponding to the material in the body of the coat. The foundation portion 26 has an edge 2'I conforming in shape to the yoke at the point of the flap I9 so it will coincide with the coupling portion 23 of the slide fastener. The other section 28 of the slide fastener is sewed or otherwise secured to the edge 21 of the c ollar in spaced relation to the ends thereof, whereby the slide fastener may be effective in attaching the auxiliary collar to the coat along the4 rear and shoulder 2 s I portions of the garment only, so thatthe ornamental piece has free end portions Il and, which may be drawn around the neck'and face of the wearer as desired.

'The slide fastener section 2l has conventional coupling portions lf to interlock with Vthose of the other section when a tab 32 is drawnthere- Y over.

Ties 8l may be provided at the free ends Il-and Il of the ornamental piece il for fasteningit in desired position about the neck of the wearer.

While I have particularly described the invenchange the style of the garment to a sports coat,

thetab 32 of the slide fastener is grasped and drawn from right to left to separate the slide fastener sections in the usual manner. 'Ihe complete length 'of the slide fastener having been traversed by the tab 32, the ornamental piece may be lifted free of the coat and put away for future use. By reversing the operation just described, assuming the slide fastener tab to be in place on the auxiliary collar yoke at the forward left hand portion thereof, and the tab properly positioned relative to the left hand ends of the separated slide fastener sections, the ornamental piece may at any time be quickly `reapplied to the coat for converting the same from sports to dress wear by merely pulling the slide fastener tab from the left to the right extremities of the collar.

From the foregoing it is obvious that I have provided a garment with a removable neck or shoulder piece so that it may be converted from one style to another thereby permitting use of the 'same for various occasions and that the collar attaching device is concealed so as not to detract from the appearance of the garment.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A garment including back, neck and shoulder portions, a collar permanently attached to the neck portion, fastening means for an ornamental piece attached to the back and shoulder portions in radially spaced relation with the attachment point of the collar with said neck portion, an ornamental piece for the garment, and fastening means on the ornamental piece cooperating with said fastening means to removably secure the ornamental piece in spaced encircling relation with the collar.

2. A garment including back, neck and shoulder portions, a collar permanently attached to the neck portion, a concealing ilapfixed to the back and shoulder portions in spaced relation with the attachment point of the collar' with said neck portion, fastening means concealed by said ilap, an ornamental piece for the garment, and fastening means on said ornamental piece s-,osa'sos cooperating with said concealed fastening means to removably secure said ornamental piece in encircling spaced relation to the collar.

3. A garment including back, neck and shoulder portions, a collar permanently attached to the neck portion, a concealing flap fixed to the back and shoulder portions in spaced relation with the attachment point of the collar with said neck portion, fastening means concealed by said flap, a neck piece for the garment, 'fastening means on the neck piece cooperating with said concealed fastening means to removably secure said neck piece to' the garment, and ties on the neck piece for securing ends of the neck piece across the front of the garment.

4. A garment including back, neck and shoulder portions, concentric yoke sections incorporated in the back and shoulder portions of the garment, a collar permanently attached to the inner concentric section, means for attaching said concentric sections together to form a flap, fastening means concealed by said flap, an ornamental piece encircling the collar, and fastening means on said ornamental piece cooperating with the concealed fastening means to secure said ornamental piece to the garment in encircling spaced relation to said collar.

5. A garment includingback, neck and sh'oulder portions, a yoke incorporated into the back and shoulder portions of the garment including inner and outer concentric sections, means securing the adjacent edges of said sections together to form a flap, a collar secured to the inner edge of the inner section, fastening means concealed by said flap, an ornamental piece for the garment, and fastening means on said ornamental piece cooperating with the concealed fastening means to secure said ornamental piece to the garment in spaced relation with said collar.

6. A garment including back, neck and shoulder portions, a collar permanently attached to the neck portion, a concealing flap fixed to the back and shoulder portions in spaced relation to the point of attachment of the collar, an ornamental piece for the garment including an outwardly aring collar portion having an inner edge secured to said attaching means, and a fur xed to the outer edge of said collar portion, said collar .being adapted to lie over said nap without overlapping the fur.

7. A garment including back, neck and shoulder portions, a yoke incorporated into the back and shoulder portions of the garment including inner and outer concentric sections, means securing the adjacent edges of the sections together to form a flap, a collar secured to the inner edge of the inner section, fastening means concealed by said flap, a neck piece for the garment including an outwardly and upwardly flaring collar portion, fastening means on the collar portion cooperating with the concealed fastening means to secure the neck piece to the garment, and a fur secured to the outer edge of the collar portion, said spacing between the collar and said attaching means being such that the collar is adapted to lie over said fastening means without overlapping said fur.
