BABY SHQE PROTECTOR Filed Dec. 51, .1935
ATTORN EY Patented Sept. 8, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to shoe protectors especially adapted for babies and small children and has for the primary object the provision of a device of this character which may be easily and quickly applied to the legs of a child to overlie the uppers of the shoe to prevent fluid owing down the legs of a child from entering the shoes and wetting the interior of said shoes and the socks worn by the child and also acting to direct the fluid away from the shoes so that it may gravitate onto the floor or ground.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing a protector applied to a childs leg and overlying the upper of the shoe worn by the child and constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure l.
Figure 3 is a perspective view illustrating a leg encircling element or strip.
Figure 4 is a plan view illustrating a skirt overlying the shoe upper and supported by the leg encircling strip.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral I indicates a leg encircling band equipped at its end with separable fasteners 2. The band or strip is constructed of any suitable water-proof material and preferably elastic so as to snugly lit the leg of the child when adaptedrthereto. Secured to or formed on the band or strip and spaced above the lower edge of the latter is a flange or rib 3 of substantially triangular shape in cross section, presenting a straight face 4 and a sloping face 5. The band or strip l when applied to the leg enters the upper 6 of the shoe 1 with the straight face 4 of the flange or rib resting upon the upper 6. The rib or iiange acts to prevent the strip l from working downwardly on the leg and entirely within the upper 6.
A skirt 8 of a shape as shown in Figure 4 is provided at its ends with separable fasteners 9. The shape of the skirt is such that it will overlie and cover the upper of the shoe with the upper edge of the skirt resting on the inclined face 5 of the rib or ange 3 and snugly tting the band or strip l. The skirt is constructed of any suitable water-proof material and the color of the skirt 10 and band may-be made to harmonize with the color of the shoe worn by the child.
The band or strip when applied to the leg and positioned to enter the shoe upper will prevent fiuid from passing down into the shoe upper and wetting the interior of the shoe as well as the sock worn by the child. The skirt fitting over the rib or flange will direct the fluid away from the shoe so that it may gravitate onto the oor or ground.
A device of the character described may be manufactured and sold at a low cost and may i be readily adapted to a childs leg and worn without discomfort and which will efficiently prevent wetting of the shoe or the sock worn by the child.
Having described the invention, I claim:
l. A shoe protector comprising an elastic leg encircling strip adapted to enter an upper of a shoe, a rib formed on said strip and having straight and beveled faces, said straight face contacting the edges of the upper of the shoe, and a skirt overlying the upper of the shoe and encircling the strip and contacting the beveled face of the rib.
2. A shoe protector comprising an elastic leg encircling strip adapted to enter an upper of a shoe, a rib formed on said strip and having straight and beveled faces, said straight face contacting the edges of the upper of the shoe, a skirt overlying the upper of the shoe and encircling the strip and contacting the beveled face of the rib, and separable fasteners for detachably connecting the ends of the strip and skirt.
