Description
Aug. 18, 1936. R, PRACHT 2,051,416
DOUBLE COLLAR Filed Nov. 3, 1934 Fig.4.
Patented Aug. 18, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DOUBLE COLLAR Application November 13, 1934, Serial No. 752,816 In Gerimany December 31, 1930 4 Claims.
Application has been filed in Germany on December 31, 1930.
The present invention relates to stiff and halfstiff double collars made of any suitable material and provided with a device for facilitating the drawing of the tie through the collar.
Double collars are already known which are provided with narrow perforations arranged transversely or at an angle to or longitudinally of the neck band of the collar, or with narrow grooves on the neck band which are directed towards the outer portion of the collar. In collars of this known kind, however, the ease of manipulation in drawing the tie through the collar is not increased, but rather on the other hand a pressing action on the strip of the tie is exerted in consequence of the narrowing of the intermediate space between the inner and outer parts of the collar. Stifi double collars are likewise known which, for the purpose of facilitating the operation of drawing the tie through, are provided with a strip of material attached below the fold-over part of the collar on the inner side. Furthermore, stiff double collars are also known which are provided on the inner part or neck band with two longitudinal bulges spaced apart from one another, the neck tie being inserted between the bulges so that it can freely slide between them.
This last named construction has, however, the disadvantage that the longitudinal bulges which provide a space betwen them for the purpose of enabling the tie to be conveniently drawn through between the folds of the collar have to be first sewn on to the inner wall of the neck band of the collars whether they are new or whether they have been already used. This necessity considerably increases the cost of manufacture of the double collar. A still more important disadvantage results, however, from the fact that when a collar of this kind is ironed, the bulges which are intended to form the intermediate space for the passage of the collar become ironed out flat and thereby rendered inoperative.
In the stiff double collars according to the present invention, these disadvantages are avoided by the provision of a longitudinal depression which is pressed out from the otherwise unaltered interior wall of the neck band of collars which may be new or may have already been used. It will be obvious that a depression produced in this way and extending longitudinally around the neck band so as to enable the tie to be readily passed around the same, will remain always operative. The depression pressed out of the neck band is of curved or arcuate form.
As compared with the known collars having special devices for obtaining the result aimed at, namely for facilitating the drawing of the tie between the outer and the inner part of the collar, the present invention offers the further particular advantage that the depression can be produced after manufacture on any existing collar by means of a simple machine adapted for this purpose.
By way of example a collar made according to the invention is illustrated on the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective front view of a stiff double collar,
Fig. 2 is a cross section through the collar, and
Fig. 3 is a view of the collar similar to that shown in Fig. 1, but in which the one corner of the front portion of the outer part of the collar has been cut away.
Referring to the drawing:
A stifi double collar 4 is shown which is provided with an outer portion l and an inner portion or neckband 2. According to the invention the neckband is formed with a longitudinal hollow chamfer or depression ll projecting inwardly, that is to say towards the neck of the wearer. By the provision of the said depression an enlarged space 5 is advantageously provided for the reception of the band 6 of a neck tie inserted between the two portions of the collar.
I claim:
1. A stifi double collar comprising an outer portion and a neck band, the neck band being provided with a longitudinal depression and the outer portion being convex, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. A stifi double collar made in one integral piece and comprising in combination: an outer portion of single thickness; and an inner neck band of the same single thickness forming a fold with said outer portion and provided with a longitudinal inwardly extending depressed part of armate cross section pressed out from said neck band, substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. A stifi double collar made in one integral piece and comprising in combination: an outer portion of single thickness; and an inner neck band of the same single thickness forming a fold with said outer portion and pro-vided with a pressed-out part of the aforesaid single thickness extending longitudinally and horizontally around the middle portion of said neck band, said pressed-out part being of arcuate cross section and having its convex side directed inwardly towards the neck of the wearer of the collar, substantially as and for the purpose described.
4. A stiff double collar comprisingin combination: an outer portion'of single thickness; an inner portion of the same single thickness inte- V gral with said outer portion and forming a fold therewith, said inner portion constituting a. neck band; and a longitudinal depressed part on said inner portion integral with and having the same single thickness as the latter, said depressed part being of concave-convex cross section and having its convex side 'on the side of said inner portion remote from said outer portion.
