Description

Oct. 22, 1935.
E. A, MYNTTI CUFF DEVICE Filed April 21, 195
Patented Oct. 22, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application April 21, 1934, Serial No. 721,815 In Finland April 19, 1933 Claims.
As is known, the trouble with unstarched cuffs is that the corners crease and look untidy. De-
' vice in accordance with the invention does away with this drawback.
The invention is founded on the fact that a plate of some suitable material is inserted in each corner of the cuff between the layers of material before the cuff is creased. This plate extends from the corner of the cuff along the side of the buttonhole as far as the crease, and along the crease inwards to a certain extent. When the cuff is then folded in two in the usual way, so that the buttonholes are oppostte each other, these plates remain in the cuff at the corners and stiffen same, so that they do not become crumpled in use.
The enclosed drawing shows a method of execution of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows the cuff open, with the plate placed between the layers of material.
Fig. 2 shows the cuff, complete with plate, folded, and supplied with links.
The cuff I is the usual shape, and can have a seam at the edge as is usually the case, but this may also be omitted. The plates 3 (shown by dotted line) may be of any desired shape, but it is to the greatest advantage togive them the shape shown in the drawing, that is roughly speaking that of an even-sided, right-angled triangle, in which the side forming the hypotenuse is curved inwards, and the corners at the ends of this side preferably rounded, so that two projections 4, 4 are formed, of which the one reaches between the buttonholes 5 and the edge (or edging seam) of the cuff to the corner at the edge of same, and the other to some point inwards in the direction of the fold l. of the cuff. When the cuff is folded together, the right-angle corner of the triangular plate 3 and the projection 4 in the direction of the fold 1 stiffen the outer corner of the cuff, as is seen in Fig. 2, while at the same time the second projection 4 keeps the inner (Wrist. end) corner straight.
It is to the greatest advantage to make a small point extending outwards on the hypotenuse side of the plate 3, which being placed by the side of the buttonhole 5 receives support from The plate 3 may be made of metal, celluloid, cardboard, paper, or other suitable material.
.I claim:
1. A difficultly-creasable, foldable cuff, comprising a cuff member foldable along its longi- 5 tudinal middle into two longitudinal parts, and a substantially triangular shaped reinforcing member inserted in at least one end of one longitudinal part, one wall thereof extending along substantially the entire transverse edge of the 10 longitudinal part, and the other wall extending inwardly along the foldable edge, the hypotenuse of the reinforcing member passing close to a button-hole of the cuff, so that the latter aids in holding the reinforcing member in place.
2. A dificultly-creasable, foldable cuff, comprising a cuff member foldable along its longitudinal middle into two longitudinal parts, and a substantially triangular shaped reinforcing member inserted in at least one end of one longitudinal part, one wall thereof extending along substantially the entire transverse edge of the longitudinal part, and the other wall extending inwardly along the foldable edge, the hypotenuse of the reinforcing member passing close to a button-hole of the cuff, the said hypotenuse having two concave indentations together definmg a, central protuberance located close beside the said button-hole, so that the latter aids in holding the reinforcing members in place.
3. A device for stiffening cuff corners, comprising a right-angle triangular shaped member, the walls of which are adapted to ,be along the transverse edge and the fold of one longitudinal part of a folded cuff, the hypotenuse having two concave indentations together defining a central protuberance adapted to be near to and receive reinforcement from a button-hole of the cuff.
4. A device for stiffening cuff corners, comprising a right-angle triangular shaped member, the walls of which are adapted to be along the transverse edge and the fold of one longitudinal part of afolded cuff, the hypotenuse having two concave-indentations together defining a central protuberance adapted to be near to and receive reinforcement from a button-hole of the cufl, the ends of the said walls being rounded.
5. A diflicultlycreasable, foldable cuff, comprising a cufi member foldable along its longitudinal middle into two longitudinal parts, and a substantially triangular shaped reinforcing member inserted in at least one end of one longitudinal part, one wall thereof extending along substantially the entire transverse edge of the longitudinal part, the other wall extending inwardly along the foldable edge, the hypotenuse ing the reinforcing members in place, and an of the reinforcing member passing close to a opening provided in one surface of the inner or button-hole of the cuff, the said hypotenuse havwrist longitudinal part of the cuff, for the insering two concave indentations together defining tion and removal of the reinforcing member.
5 a central protuberance located close beside the said button-hole, so that the latter aids in hoid- EEMU ALEKSANTERI MYN'I'II.
